Position Overview
As a Quality Control Technical Manager for a Liquid Asphalt Terminal in the Texas Region, this key role ensures the quality and integrity of the liquid asphalt products being stored and distributed from the terminal. The position is critical in maintaining the reputation of the terminal as a reliable supplier of high‑quality liquid asphalt to customers in construction, road maintenance, and other industries.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the development and implementation of quality control procedures and standards for incoming and outgoing liquid asphalt shipments, conducting regular tests, inspections, and analyses to meet industry specifications and customer requirements.
- Design and maintain testing protocols for properties such as viscosity, temperature susceptibility, penetration, ductility, and chemical composition; ensure all testing instruments are properly calibrated and functioning accurately.
- Maintain regulatory compliance with local, regional, and national standards for liquid asphalt storage, handling, and distribution; secure and maintain necessary permits and licenses.
- Keep detailed records of test results, inspections, and quality control measures; generate reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure delivered asphalt meets required quality standards; communicate issues and work to resolve them.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance product quality and operational efficiency, including new testing methods, optimized storage conditions, and equipment upgrades.
- Train and supervise a team of quality control technicians; ensure they are competent and well‑trained in their roles.
- Develop contingency plans and protocols for emergencies such as spills, leaks, or accidents involving liquid asphalt; ensure staff are prepared to handle incidents safely.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and safety departments for a holistic approach to terminal operations.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development to stay current with advancements in asphalt technology and quality practices.
- Effectively communicate with internal teams, suppliers, customers, and regulatory agencies about quality control processes, results, and compliance.
- Complete all required paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
- Review time cards, monitor attendance, and adhere to company policies.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance at assigned times.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline preferred.
- Minimum seven years of prior experience with asphalt production, testing, quality control, or terminal operations. Polymer processing experience a plus where applicable.
- Valid state driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
- Proficiency in material testing methods for liquid asphalt, including viscosity, penetration, and ductility testing.
- Strong understanding of QC principles and techniques.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations governing liquid asphalt production, storage, and distribution, including environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Experience operating, calibrating, and maintaining laboratory instruments and equipment used for asphalt testing.
- Effective communication with customers and company personnel.
- Ability to supervise and control personnel to achieve customer satisfaction.
- Solid technical, analytical, mechanical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and implement effective solutions.
Exceptional precision and attention to detail for accurate test results. - Organizational skills to manage test schedules, documentation, and reporting.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with local operational software.
- Good judgment under pressure.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend detailed instructions.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
