Position Summary
  • The position is fast‑paced and physical, involving continual vehicle entry/exit, lifting, lowering, and carrying packages weighing 25–35 lbs (up to 50 lbs). It requires making 50–150 stops per day with a handheld scanner.
  • Drivers operate medium‑size package vans, liftgate trucks, and use equipment such as pallet jacks, hand carts, and forklifts.
  • Strong commitment to safety and possession of DOT Hazmat certification and a Class "B" license with Haz Mat and airbrake endorsements are required.
  • Must demonstrate safe driving, material handling practices, and comply with LBNL and Facilities policies and safety guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Class B California Commercial Driver's license with Haz Mat and airbrake endorsements, and current medical card.
  • Minimum one year of paid or regular package delivery driving experience.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and driving skills.
  • Compliance with DOT requirements and Workplace Substance Abuse Program.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal vehicle codes and transport laws.
  • Experience operating medium‑size package vans, liftgate trucks, and forklifts up to 5 tons; forklift operator certification obtained upon hire.
  • Physical ability: walk, lift up to 50 lbs, carry, push, pull, climb, stoop, crouch, reach, handle with fingers, and meet vision and hearing requirements.
  • Experience with cargo handling and documentation procedures.
  • Expertise in equipment tie‑down and proper weight distribution.
  • Knowledge of pre‑trip vehicle inspection procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently or in teams, develop own methods, use initiative, and make decisions within scope of work.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work flexibly in a changing environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that include interacting effectively with team members and customers.
  • Ability to follow processes, procedures, and policies.
Desired Qualifications
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Familiarity with LBNL onsite and remote delivery locations, DOT safety standards, Property Management System, iBox barcode system, and tying down equipment loads.
