Position Summary

Ambulatory Care Nurse - Urology - Bethpage. Supports coordination, integration, communication, implementation and evaluation of nursing practice and clinical policies and procedures. Participates in organizational quality and performance improvement activities, collects patient healthcare data, and collaborates with licensed providers to develop patient‑centered plans of care.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform physical examinations and diagnostic tests.
  • Collect patient health history and record information in electronic health record.
  • Provide information, counsel, and education to patients and families regarding test results and treatment plans as directed.
  • Administer medications (including vaccination, IV therapy, oxygen administration), provide wound care, and conduct triage.
  • Assess and monitor patient responses to treatments, procedures, and anesthesia.
  • Consult with clinical supervisors and licensed providers to determine optimal treatment plans.
  • Direct, supervise, and delegate to licensed practical nurses, medical assistants and technicians to support patient flow and efficiency.
  • Support coordination, integration, communication, implementation and performance evaluation of nursing practice and clinical policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Patient Safety initiatives and report as required.
  • Support key quality initiatives such as MIPS and Care gap management.
  • Participate in clinical inquiry and evidence‑based practice activities.
  • Serve as support and resource for nursing and clinical staff.
  • Provide emergency care in accordance with organizational policy.
  • Delegate and oversee specific nursing interventions as appropriate.

Implementation / Provision of Care

Task / Procedure
  • Collect and document patient clinical history and assessment data.
  • Perform onsite testing including POC lab testing, EKG, specimen collection, psychiatry and physical risk screening, fetal monitoring, spirometry, allergy skin testing, and bladder TB skin testing.
  • Perform medical and nursing treatments in accordance with plan of care and NYSBON scope of practice.
  • Perform procedures such as hot & cold applications, orthopedic appliance placement/removal, suture and staple removal, catheter care, ear irrigation, dressings, wound care, and assist with minor and major procedures.
  • Monitor patients pre‑, intra‑, post‑procedure and medication administration.
  • Administer medications via IM, PO, SQ, , IV, topical, inhalation, ocular, vaginal, rectal routes and oxygen therapy.
  • Facilitate medication refills and prepare orders for provider authorization.
  • Administer IV therapy (blood products, fluids, chemotherapy, peripheral or central lines).
  • Start and discontinue peripheral IV lines; maintain lines and manage complications.
Communication and Message Management
  • Manage clinical in‑baskets and close encounters timely.
  • Document and report critical lab values.
  • Relay normal and abnormal results, including follow‑up and explanations.
  • Perform triage and provide advice within RN scope.
  • Coordinate Care/Case management for a defined population.
Health Promotion & Education
  • Identify health and well‑being deviations, advocate and recommend actions.
  • Collect and analyze patient healthcare data continuously.
  • Determine health status and nursing diagnoses.
  • Escalate urgent deviations to medical provider or emergency care.
  • Identify expected outcomes and anticipate unexpected outcomes.
  • Consider needs of specific patient age and cultural groups.
