Job Description

The primary function of the Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and explaining the processes clearly and courteously to patients.

Responsibilities

+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and handle decontamination.

+ Update patient information and collect specimens such as blood, urine, or fecal samples according to established procedures.

+ Demonstrate proficiency using straight and butterfly needles.

+ Understand and follow all physicians' orders accurately.

+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure correct labeling and handling of specimens.

Essential Skills

+ 1+ years of phlebotomy experience in a hospital setting with proficiency in handling 30+ blood draws/volume across all age groups from pediatric to geriatric.

+ Ability to work off-shift and knowledge in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, coagulation, and urinalysis.

+ Certification or eligibility from ASCP or AMT.

Work Environment

This position is set in a hospital environment that requires a significant amount of walking and standing, including going to patient rooms with a 20lb push cart containing phlebotomy supplies. The location is busy, with approximately 25 to 30 blood draws daily, depending on hospital occupancy. The phlebotomist will work in a team setting, handling a variety of specialties, including pediatrics and geriatrics

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $18.75/hr.
