RolePolice Investigation Officer (PIP2) - Professional Standards

Pay Rate: £19.19 per hour
Contract:
3 month rolling contract (likely extensions)
We are seeking an experienced Police Investigation Officer (PIP2) to join a Professional Standards function supporting serious and complex investigations. The successful candidate will manage and undertake a broad range of investigative and evidence-gathering duties, ensuring evidence is secured, preserved and recorded appropriately. The role also involves interviewing suspects, victims and witnesses, preparing case files, and supporting wider investigations.
Key Responsibilities- Provide an investigative response to incidents and intelligence received.
- Secure, preserve and gather evidence relating to allegations of misconduct or criminal activity.
- Manage appeals processes, including maintaining records, liaising with complainants and preparing response reports.
- Engage with members of the public via telephone, written correspondence and face-to-face contact to obtain complaint details and support resolution.
- Conduct victim, witness and suspect interviews in serious and complex investigations.
- Compile detailed investigation reports and case files and present evidence at court or misconduct hearings where required.
- Provide specialist advice and guidance regarding complaints and investigations.
- Mentor and support the professional development of other investigation staff.
- Maintain accurate records using internal IT systems.
- Provide support to victims and witnesses throughout the criminal justice process.
- Support priority and volume crime investigations where required.
- Work flexibly to support operational needs.
- PIP Level 2 trained/accredited or willingness to complete accreditation within 12 months.
- Experience investigating volume and priority crime.
- Experience gathering evidence through interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects.
- Strong knowledge of criminal justice legislation including PACE and CPIA 1996.
- Experience compiling investigation files and preparing cases for court.
- Experience working with confidential and sensitive information.
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK manual driving licence.
- Willingness to undergo appropriate vetting.
- PIP Level 2 accreditation.
- National Investigators Exam (NIE).
- Knowledge of intelligence gathering procedures.
- Experience working with police or law enforcement databases.
- Experience delivering training or mentoring staff.
