Job SummaryConducts large-scale and laboratory testing and validation of new Fire Protection concepts, products, processes, and applications utilizing sound experimental design and engineering principles to ensure that goals and objectives of projects are accomplished within the prescribed timeframe and budget. Provides the required level of support according to project plans and according to completion schedules with some management support. Provides structured data, observations, results, reports and recommendations detailing performance of new concepts, products, processes, and applications for further analysis by Product Development engineers.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Performs fire suppression testing and thermal runaway management system testing in support of new product development and certification activities.
- Assigned as laboratory representative in cross-functional Fire Protection Technology activities.
- Participates in the development of technical requirements for product technical specifications.
- Supports the definition of full-scale test requirements for all fire protection product and application development projects, as well as fire phenomena research testing.
- Provides accurate and comprehensive analysis and documentation of large-scale and laboratory-scale tests of new Fire Protection concepts, products, processes, and applications.
- Provides objective validation that new product qualification test results meet established project identification performance requirements.
- Works closely with laboratory technical/technician resources to accomplish required test programs.
- Provides budgetary feedback in establishing fiscal plans for testing and development activities.
- Provides written updates and supports discussions on key test activities.
- Documents test program setup and results in comprehensive technical test reports.
- Participates in execution of test programs to ensure schedules and cost targets are met.
- Analyzes and provides feedback on proposed test plans and participates in test plan development.
- Assists in the identification of all necessary tooling, materials, hardware, and other items as required to support established test programs.
- Performs engineering calculations for test equipment mechanical integrity and safety.
- Identifies data requirements, coordinates data acquisition, and formats data for further analysis.
- Actively participates in test execution and problem solving.
- Understands and operates all related test equipment.
- Understands full range of current test capabilities and limitations.
- Maintains knowledge of new and emerging test capabilities and recommends changes.
- Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.
Performs related duties as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance is required.
QualificationsREQUIRED: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline. Two years of post‑degree experience in mechanical design and validation. Comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles, concepts, practices and theories. Experience with CAD.
PREFERRED: Small‑signal electrical measurement understanding. Instrumentation and controls knowledge.
