Health System Data Engineer Lead

As an engineering lead of our Data Platform team, you will help develop and coach others in creating innovative data solutions for business‑critical data shared across the enterprise, creating a single source of truth. You should have excellent communication skills, be a curious self‑starter, possess strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, and be passionate about delivering technical solutions that enable time‑sensitive, critical decisions.
Previous technical or personnel leadership is a plus, but not required.
- Education:
Bachelor's degree or four years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree - Experience:
Minimum of four years related experience
- Partner with other Data and Analytics leaders, Business Intelligence Developers, and Analysts to ensure they have the data needed to develop solutions and provide self‑service data access.
- Develop a strong partnership with the business to increase understanding of St. Luke’s business and clinical functions.
- Co‑develop recommendations, understand needs, and lead data and analytics professionals to deliver on requests and projects.
- Lead, coordinate, and mentor your group of data engineers to enhance and develop state‑of‑the‑art data pipelines, data lakehouse, and support data extracts.
- Mentor staff to develop skills and fulfill assignments.
- Ensure the team has clear requirements and that solutions are tested and validated.
- Provide regular status reports and plans to appropriate stakeholders.
- Responsible for performance appraisals for positions under your direction; provide leadership guidance, counseling, and continuing education to staff.
- Align and develop best practices with Data and Analytics best practices within other groups.
- Work with architects to implement solutions in alignment with standards.
- Participate in developing and improving standards and best practices across the Data & Analytics department.
- Build cross‑functional relationships with application teams and business leaders to understand information needs, data flows, and data quality.
- Design, implement, and maintain data management capabilities, including the enterprise data platform, its associated data models, ETL processes, and data architecture requirements.
- Utilize data profiling and data quality techniques for requirements validation, unit testing, and automated integration testing. Implement frameworks for automated and scripted testing.
- Contribute to improving solution stability, reliability, efficiency, and quality.
- Identify technical solutions that achieve efficiency and effectiveness and enable data usage as a strategic business asset.
- Be available to support solutions as required by the business.
- Strong SQL experience, including writing queries and stored procedures.
- Experience with database management systems, performance tuning, and security.
- Experience developing and communicating data warehouse data models and methodologies.
- Development experience with Databricks and Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services.
- Experience with REST APIs and .NET is preferred.
- Experience with Epic EHR;
Epic experience is a plus. - Exposure to Data Lake and Lakehouse methodologies.
- Previous technical or personnel leadership experience is a plus.
