Senior Mechanical Project Engineer – Boston, MA
PurposeThe Mechanical Engineer role requires a proactive and ambitious engineer with strong foundational engineering skills and the capacity to learn new skills and solve problems. The engineer will perform engineering design calculations, prepare engineering design documentation for client projects, and provide construction administration and review through project completion.
Responsibilities- Receive guidance on overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters, and apply extensive knowledge of engineering principles to complex assignments.
- Market the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and strengthen relationships with existing clients.
- Collaborate with civil, structural, electrical, and architectural disciplines to ensure high‑quality, comprehensive designs.
- Serve as mentor, resource, and trainer for Design Engineers and less experienced Project Engineers.
- Represent the project team in client communications and resolutions.
- Design complex mechanical systems in accordance with current code requirements and sound engineering principles.
- Specify and layout mechanical systems (ductwork, piping equipment, schedules, notes, etc.) according to company drafting standards.
- Create reports such as basis of designs, written narratives, field observations, and letters to AHJs.
- Resolve complex design issues with clients and oversee designs through project construction and completion.
- Communicate effectively with engineers, project managers, and clients.
- Conduct field observations to document existing conditions and report construction progress.
- Prioritize and manage multiple tasks to complete designs efficiently.
- Produce construction documents that meet milestone schedules within budget constraints.
- Attend coordination and design meetings as needed.
- Define project specifications, performance criteria, and conduct cost estimating.
- Address comments from clients and review authorities, adjusting designs accordingly.
- Review construction administrative items (shop drawings, RFIs, change orders).
- Work within established project budgets.
- Maintain knowledge of codes applicable to the discipline and software such as AutoCAD and Revit.
- Delegate tasks and review work of junior team members.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Build effective relationships with internal leaders, peers, and external clients.
- Demonstrate a highly motivated, problem‑solving attitude.
- Show strong urgency in responding to constituent needs.
- Maintain a strong work ethic and commitment to quality.
- Exhibit effective verbal and written communication skills.

- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering.
- Ten or more years of relevant industry experience in design of industrial, mission‑critical, commercial, government, academic, or R&D projects.
- Knowledge of plumbing and fire protection systems is a plus.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Carrier HAP; CADENCE Reality DC (6
Sigma) CFD knowledge preferred. - Professional Engineer license strongly preferred.
Range $135,000 – $175,000, commensurate with experience, and includes variable compensation as applicable.
