The Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Medicine Division of Palliative Care & Geriatric Medicine is seeking an Attending Physician board certified in Geriatric Medicine.

The successful candidate will have clinical training and experience in Geriatric Medicine with an established interest working as a clinician-educator in the acute care hospital and ambulatory care environments. The position is for an attending geriatric medicine physician who will provide longitudinal and consultative care in the ambulatory clinic and participate in the Geriatric Medicine Service's hospital-based consult service.

We are seeking candidates with a clear commitment to diversity and inclusion, mentorship, and professional development. The successful candidate will be expected to promote and participate in a collaborative relationship with other health care professionals and serve as a role-model for professional medical practice in the management of patients with complex disease and wholistic care needs. Although several years of experience would be advantageous, less experienced candidates with exceptional clinical and academic potential will also be considered.

The candidate must meet the requirements for appointment at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor of Medicine at the Harvard Medical School with experience, training, and achievements in addition to teaching activities. Suitable candidates will have an MD or DO, and Board Certification in Geriatric Medicine.


Performs and records the patient history and physical exam.

Utilizes knowledge & training to identify, prevent or solve complex and/or recurring patient care problems.

Follows and manages patients enhancing continuity of care.

Performs or supervises procedures/testing particular to the select patient population.

Performs medically delegated aspects of patient care according to practice guidelines.

Collaborates with health care professionals to facilitate a comprehensive plan of care and coordinate resources.

Writes orders which are in accord with current guidelines.

Maintains and practices in accord with physician guidelines per state and hospital regulations.

Orders/obtains routine laboratory and related studies.

Maintains and promotes relationships with health care providers, both within the institution and outside of it.

Serves as resource to health care professionals in area(s) of expertise.

Participates in the development of formal and informal educational programs for health care professionals.

Collaborates with other health care professionals to meet staff and patient educational needs.

Monitor patient outcomes in accordance with defined standards of patient care.

Collaborates with administrative, advanced practice, nursing, and allied health professional staff to plan, implement, and evaluate pertinent change in practice and health care delivery.

Identifies system-wide factors contributing to undesirable outcomes, such as complications & readmissions.

Facilitates patient movement through the health-care system and efficient use of resources through intrasystem collaboration, as well as interaction with outpatient care providers within and outside our healthcare system.

Responsible for own professional growth and maintenance of required credentials.

Maintains the standards and educational requirements specific to the position and licensure.

Takes responsibilities for leadership and participation on committees and task forces of the health care system.

Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current health care practice/research.



Doctor of Medicine (MD) of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.


Current Massachusetts full medical license.

Current DEA & Massachusetts licensure to dispense controlled substances.

Board Certification in Geriatric Medicine.

Current Basic Life Support certification.


Fluent in verbal and written language skills.

Demonstrated competence in providing geriatric medicine in the acute care and ambulatory setting.

Effective communicator with the ability to transfer knowledge, orally and in writing.

Computer skills to support administrative and clinical tasks, to include Electronic Health Record & Microsoft Office applications.
