What you will do:
The Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will have primary responsibility for the Broomfield site operation’s EHS scope and duties and secondary responsibility for Electra corporate EHS program development. In such capacity, this person will lead the environmental, health, and safety programs at our Broomfield, Colorado manufacturing facility. This individual will play a critical role in assisting with developing safety systems from the ground up, ensuring compliance, and fostering a strong safety culture in a heavy industrial environment.
Responsibilities include:- Develop and implement EHS programs, policies, and procedures tailored to a chemical and heavy industrial environment
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate EHS considerations into operational processes and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies and external auditors
- Lead risk assessments, HAZOPs, and job hazard analyses for plant operations
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses; develop and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Oversee safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous chemicals
- Develop and enforce protocols for working around large iron components, heavy machinery, and mobile equipment
- Implement and maintain emergency response plans, spill control, and fire protection systems
- Travel as needed to obtain or maintain personal training/certifications and benchmark internally and externally (approximately 2 weeks per year)
- Design and deliver safety training programs for operators, technicians, and leadership
- Promote a proactive safety culture through coaching, audits, and continuous improvement
- Serve as a visible safety leader on the plant floor, modeling best practices and engaging with frontline teams
- Track and report EHS performance metrics, incidents, and corrective actions
- Conduct regular inspections, audits, and investigations to identify and mitigate risks
- Monitor and close out action items stemming from incident investigations, hazard analyses, and/or audits
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of progressive EHS experience in mining, manufacturing, chemical, or similar industrial environments (excluding internships, co‑ops, and other school projects)
- Proven experience developing, implementing, and leading safety programs within complex industrial or manufacturing settings
- Advanced knowledge of hazardous materials handling, industrial hygiene, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations, develop innovative solutions, and implement effective policies, procedures, and programs
- Strong understanding of cross‑functional interdependencies and ability to influence outcomes across disciplines
- Exercises sound judgment in selecting and adapting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to achieve business objectives
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to influence and advise stakeholders on complex matters
- Experience mentoring junior team members and leading projects or initiatives without direct people management responsibility
- Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic environment, managing complex assignments aligned with departmental and organizational goals
