Lead Engineer (m/f/d) for Industrial Measurement - Satellite Alignment

The Alignment Team within the AIT (Assembly, Integration and Test) division is responsible for all alignment tasks during the satellite integration phases. This includes the precise alignment of various instruments such as star trackers, propulsion thrusters and other components.

Your Tasks
  • Organize and lead all technical Alignment matters within the assigned project to meet stakeholders' expectations within cost, schedule, quality and risk contraints
  • Overall technical Responsibility for all alignment tasks during the satellite development, integration, test and launch phases on project level (with respect to generic AIT processes), this means:
    • Establishing an alignment plan
      • Delivery and discussion of budgets and inputs for satellite design, systems engineering, AOCS and propulsion etc. regarding requirements for alignment
      • Checking of alignment requirements and converting them into an alignment approach
      • Identification of the measurement methods to be used
      • Definition of a suitable sequence of measurements
    • Delivery of inputs to the AIT plan and schedule
    • Creating the necessary procedures for the alignment
    • Execution and leading of measurements with Theodolites, Laser Trackers, Photogrammetry and Spatial Analyzer
    • Evaluating the measurement results and summarizing them in test reports
    • Discussing of results with the customer
    • Contributing to and participating in AIT reviews and NRBs for the respective project
  • Training of personnel
  • Developing standards for alignment measurements
  • Research and development of new alignment/metrology technologies (as needed)
Your Qualifications
  • Completed (engineering) studies in the field of surveying/geodesy, aerospace engineering, physics or a comparable qualification
  • Focus on optical measurements with at least 5 to 7 years of professional experience including the use of theodolites, laser trackers and photogrammetry
  • Advanced knowledge of Spatial Analyzer for measurement execution and analysis
  • 5 to 7 years of experience with alignment for space projects and with the necessary documentation and budgets
  • High level of communication and teamwork skills
  • High motivation, ability to work structured and independently
  • Good conceptual, problem solving and analytical skills
  • High flexibility
  • Strategic action:
    High cost and schedule awareness, foresighted planning, early detection and avoidance of technical risks
  • Working under pressure is a challenge, but not a problem for you
  • Increased willingness for travelling and shiftwork
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, knowledge of German is a great advantage
