The role involves planning and organising painting and decorating tasks, both internal and external, as instructed by management. Responsibilities include carrying out preparation work such as making walls ready prior to decoration, completing minor repairs to surfaces and structures, undertaking additional minor repair works as needed, and using all relevant tools, equipment and access apparatus safely in line with health & safety guidelines.

The position requires erecting access equipment, plant and temporary screening when required, monitoring decorating material stock levels, requesting replenishment, and performing all aspects of painting and decorating including paint removal and preparation of work areas. Duties also involve safely moving heavy items such as fridges, filing cabinets and tables, interpreting instructions, drawings and specifications, and maintaining all hand and power tools and workshop equipment safely while delivering a high standard of workmanship as directed by the team leader or works supervisor.

Respond promptly to verbal, written and reactive tasks, carry out painting and decorating work to a high standard, provide support and input into projects, notify line manager of complaints or discrepancies, ensure works are completed within the approved budget, utilise equipment efficiently and keep it clean, attend site inductions and read site file, sign method statements and risk assessments, attend QHSE training courses, complete all tasks safely wearing required PPE, wear uniforms, safety boots and name badges, submit accurate timesheets, follow local procedures, and liaise with site management and key personnel regarding building‑related issues.

Requires a recognised qualification or a minimum of three years of checkable experience in painting. A full driving licence is preferred but not essential. Completed apprenticeship is desirable. The successful candidate must be organised, able to meet deadlines, self‑motivated, a strong team player, conversant with relevant legislation and compliance requirements, possess good knowledge of health and safety, demonstrate strong motivational skills, a positive "can‑do" attitude and excellent customer‑service abilities, and be capable of carrying out all duties associated with the role of a painter and decorator.

Follow all group and company policies and procedures, report any deficiencies in systems of work or equipment, use all work equipment and personal PPE properly, and report any QHSE issues to line manager and/or through the divisional incident reporting system.
