About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Construction Support Technician to join the excellent team at our City Skills Centre. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting both staff and students as we help develop the future construction and Building Services Engineering (BSE) workforce.

The successful candidate will provide practical and technical support across a range of construction trades delivered within the centre. While expert knowledge in all construction disciplines is not essential, previous construction experience would be highly beneficial. The postholder will assist staff and students in preparing materials, equipment, workshops, and learning environments for both practical and classroom‑based sessions.

A significant focus of the role will be supporting our Brickwork department; therefore, experience in brickwork or a related trade would be advantageous. Candidates with forklift truck experience or certification are encouraged to apply.

This role suits an organised, flexible, and hands‑on individual who enjoys working as part of a collaborative team and supporting learners to achieve their potential.

Join a friendly, supportive, and ambitious team as we continue to grow through success.

Responsibilities
  • Provide practical and technical support across a range of construction trades.
  • Assist in preparing materials, equipment, workshops, and learning environments.
  • Support the Brickwork department with relevant trade expertise.
  • Help deliver practical and classroom‑based sessions for students.
  • Maintain and arrange equipment, ensuring safety and readiness.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Previous construction experience, preferably with brickwork or a related trade.
  • Forklift truck experience or certification encouraged.
  • Strong organisational and flexible working skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Willingness to support learners and contribute to their development.
Benefits
  • Generous terms and conditions including 13 weeks not in college (195 days in College).
  • 2:30pm finish on Fridays, free on‑site parking and various health and wellbeing resources including three Staff Wellbeing days per year.
  • Automatic enrolment to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Community involvement opportunities for staff and families.
  • Family‑friendly policies and flexible working options.
  • Investment in staff development with training and career opportunities.
  • Staff benefits package with discounts and savings for supermarkets, petrol, high‑street retailers, holidays, cinemas and other leisure.
  • A shared purpose that prioritises respect, integrity, and kindness.
Commitment to Safeguarding

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and, as part of our safeguarding commitment, we undertake DBS checks as part of our pre‑employment procedures on all potential new employees.
