Is the direct supervisor of the Radar and Computer work centers. Managing maintenance tasks and scheduling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
System Analysis & Monitoring:
- The Analyst responds to requests to investigate system performance, false Launch & Predicted Impact messages, abnormal uncorrelated target rates (UCT), Category-1 satellite misses, and electromagnetic interference (EMI).
- Monitors radar systems and tactical files (space track catalog, tasking file, site penetration files) for corruption, abnormal data, or overflow.
- Analyzes hardware diagnostics to determine anomalies for troubleshooting.
Data & Trajectory Analysis:
- Utilizes digital simulation tools, original programming, and software (Matlab, Mathematica, soft tools and resources) to perform data reduction, manipulate data, and report trends. Provides trajectory analysis and insight to the customer for characterization of object information.
- Develops mathematical algorithms for array signal processing, performance predictions, and radar return analysis.
- Execute root-cause analyses on software/hardware performance anomalies, and provide corrective action recommendations related to radar tracking, target discrimination, computing loads, processing thresholds, and engagement timelines.
Testing & Maintenance:
- Recommends system modifications to maintain radar/computer system performance within specifications.
- Executes test plans for Operational Test and Evaluation (QOT&E) of mission software.
- Evaluates software versions for anomalies/degradation. Maintains site internal calibration satellite lists and simulation media inventory.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Documents unique system events via Problem Reports and Standard Change Forms (SCF). Provides technical input for the site Operations Approval Review Board, ranking SCFs based on criticality. Writes Hardware Modification requests. Documents analytical results in formal presentations and maintains the official system documentation library.

- Thorough understanding of radar design, performance, and simulations in large complex systems. Knowledge of Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) concepts. Familiarity with one or more radars such as Cobra Dane, UEWR, or SBX (Desired); AN/FPS-115, 123, or 132 systems engineering/analysis (Highly Desired).
- Strong background in orbital mechanics, radar analysis and Phased Array Radar principles, synthetic aperture radar mapping, signal processing concepts, and radar search/track.
- UNIX, Red Hat Linux, IRIX, and Solaris operating systems. Knowledge of PAVE PAWS software (operating system, simulation, radar controller, signal processor).
- Perl, Python, Shell Scripting, Matlab, MATE, Mathematica, Satellite Tool Kit (STK), and Missile Conversion Tool (MCT). Experience C++, JOVIAL, and COMPASS programming languages is highly desirable.
