Position Function:
Under the direct supervision of the Principal, and Director of Facilities, performs general cleaning and maintenance in school buildings and grounds; maintains equipment in functional condition; and provides cleaning and custodial assistance to students, teachers, visitors and others as necessary.
Performance Responsibilities:
* Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers.
* Clean, sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
* Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets.
* Use and maintain power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, power drain snake, etc.
* Use and maintain grounds equipment and hand tools; tractor, mowers, leaf blowers, snow blowers, plows, loaders, forklifts, manlift, chainsaw, etc.
* Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments.
* Perform cleaning and related activities such as removing snow or debris from sidewalks and stairs using hand operated tools or power equipment.
* Wash accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds. Launder cleaning rags and dust mops.
* Change bulbs, ballasts, switches, receptacles. Be familiar with breaker panels and electrical meters.
* Lock and unlock assigned buildings; secure buildings when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows; report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights.
* Assist with setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
* Follow the instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
* Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools as needed.
Additional Duties:
* Perform minor plumbing repairs, light tree work.
* Perform general cleaning, and repair work, particularly during school vacations.
* Assist parents and other visitors to school buildings with special events and programs.
* Perform other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Physical and Mental Demands:
* Must be mobile, able to lift, carry, push and pull a maximum of 75 pounds with assistance and 50 pounds independently.
* Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
* Must be able to bend, kneel, crouch reach/work overhead or horizontally.
* Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
* Must be able to work effectively with others and follow directions.
* Able to work in an environment containing cleaning materials, dust and noise.
* Able to complete all tasks listed in the job description and similar assignments.
* Able to work independently.
Qualifications:
* High school diploma or GED
* Two years of recent full-time custodial experience preferred
Terms of Employment:
* Monday-Friday, 8 hrs/day
* 2nd
Shift: 2:30 p.m to 10:30 p.m.
* Day shift for all during school vacations
* Salary and Benefits in accordance with Local 1303 Contract
