Salary Range: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year

Reporting Relationships:
Recreation Specialist reports to the Assistant Program Director

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate on the initial screening and assessment team to determine tenant suitability for independent living and appropriate housing.
  • Organize, lead, and promote interest in recreational activities such as arts, crafts, sports, games, gym, and other leisure time activities.
  • Meet with tenants regularly to ascertain interests and develop activities that meet those interests.
  • Plan, coordinate, publicize, implement and facilitate support groups, special events and holiday programs.
  • Complete and maintain time and attendance forms.
  • Update and post printed materials and encourage tenant participation.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new programs to enhance tenant motivation through socialization and leisure skills.
  • Document tenant participation in recreational activities in case records.
  • Meet and collaborate with agency personnel, community organizations, NYC Parks Department, and other professional personnel to plan balanced recreational programs.
  • Escort tenants to recreational activities and other relevant events.
  • Communicate with the Social Services team about tenant concerns or progress.
  • Attend social services meetings as necessary to coordinate services and participate as part of a team.
  • Track and report outcomes and provide data updates on tenants as directed.
  • Participate in on‑site and off‑site trainings and meetings.
  • Ensure program culture is tenant‑centered, outcome‑oriented and dedicated to continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensure programs and activities align with program goals and objectives, ensuring tenants have access to support, socialization and recreational activities.
  • Enhance socialization activities to increase tenant involvement and develop their socialization skills.
  • Advocate and connect tenants to medical, mental health, and other supportive counseling services.
  • Regularly coordinate with collateral contacts including family, providers, workforce centers, HRA, and NYS DOL.
  • Engage with community partners to provide onsite and off‑site services.
  • Conduct visits in the tenant’s unit to ensure compliance with lease and program rules.
  • Guide tenants through application, qualification, re‑determination for SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, Medicare, HRA, SNAP, and other services as needed.
  • Manage an assigned caseload of tenants providing comprehensive case management services to families and single adults.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the immediate supervisor or Assistant Program Director.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (social work, mental health counseling, psychology, sociology, etc.) with at least 3–5 years of experience in a residential setting.
  • Associate degree in a related field with at least 5 years of experience in a residential setting.

Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills focused on providing excellent tenant services.
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to complete reports as assigned.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with a diverse community of residents, program staff, and external vendors.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and apply problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team‑oriented, outcomes‑focused environment.
Compensation and Benefits

Base salary: $55,000.00 per year.
