Data Operations Engineer

Team Description

We are a Data Platform Engineer Team responsible for day-to-day management and oversight of the technologies and services supporting multiple data and analytic platforms across the Enterprise. The team operates within four domains:
Data Integration, Data Warehouse, Data Lakes, and Analytics & Reporting on cloud-based and on-premises platforms. We serve a range of analytics domains including finance, HCM, legal, tax, and intellectual property.

• Act as technology subject‑matter expert, partnering with stakeholders to address issues and recommend or implement enhancements
• Investigate and resolve production issues from end‑user to persistence layer
• Identify and mitigate risks to service delivery, proactively resolving problems before they impact service levels
• Lead technical recovery of major system outages and coordinate with vendors or external delivery teams
• Develop and maintain technical documentation for efficient support and future request assessment
• Monitor service performance and recommend continuous improvement initiatives, including application performance management
• Participate in on‑call rotations (where applicable)

• Oversee vendor/partner resolution of incidents/problems/requests, ensuring service‑level and quality targets are met
• Gather requirements for minor enhancements and supervise the resulting product from vendors
• Implement continuous improvement on existing technical solutions
• Drive adoption of agile development methodologies, improving velocity and quality through Dev Ops practices and automated testing
• Partner with the application security team on implementing “security by design” to meet security standards
• Collaborate with QA, UX, and Release Project Managers to ensure timely, high‑quality deliverables
• Participate in periodic problem‑analysis meetings and post‑implementation reviews to document learnings and drive continuous improvement

• Design and implement technology solutions with Solution Architects, Product and Engineering Managers to support business objectives
• Champion operational excellence by ensuring delivery and support functions are efficient, simple to execute, and effectively measured
• Ensure application solutions meet business expectations through capacity, performance, and availability management
• Coordinate development and ongoing maintenance of disaster‑recovery plans
• Develop and maintain the technology currency roadmap
• Define engineering support best practices and provide technical mentorship
• Oversee security and vulnerability management activities
• Research third‑party products and solutions to add business value
• Initiate new technology analyses for application initiatives
• Keep technical expertise up‑to‑date with the latest technical changes and knowledge
• Maintain awareness of standards, guidelines, industry trends, and best practices

• Minimum of 7 years of related work experience, including:
  • 5+ years of experience across development activities (code deployment, load/performance testing, integration testing)
  • Deep technical expertise in SAP, Snowflake, and related application platforms or services
  • Participation in formal change‑management processes
  • Experience working within an agile framework
  • Business acumen with deep expertise in finance and HCM domains and strong technical skills supporting those domains
  • Proven negotiating and consensus‑building abilities
  • Experience with vendor management
  • Experience with a variety of SDLC methodologies across waterfall and agile
  • Exemplary communication skills
• Leadership skills: self‑starter able to navigate complex structures, influence and collaborate to achieve results within a matrix environment, decision‑making under uncertainty
• Execution skills: hands‑on proficiency in development principles, product delivery in a matrixed environment, service‑management practices, and effective review board participation

  • Data platforms (SAP HANA, Snowflake, DB2, SAP BW)
