Position: EAP (English for Academic Purposes) Instructor
About the Role
Mount Royal University’s English Language Program is hiring two instructors for a short-term Summer English and Culture Program running from July 6 – 31, 2026. This customized program welcomes international students to develop their English language skills while learning about Canadian culture and university life in Calgary.
Reporting to the Learn English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) Program Manager, the successful candidate will teach English language classes focused on integrated language skills development, including speaking, listening, vocabulary, pronunciation, and intercultural communication. Classes will include a combination of classroom instruction, interactive activities, and theme-based learning connected to Canadian culture and daily life.
Our instructors bring adult education expertise and familiarity with current research in language teaching to the classroom through engaging lesson planning and student-centered instruction. The successful candidate will be able to apply appropriate teaching methods to meet learner needs, facilitate communicative and interactive learning experiences, assess student progress informally throughout the program, and collaborate professionally with colleagues and staff.

Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging English language lessons aligned with the program curriculum and learning outcomesFacilitate communicative, student-centered learning activities that support language development and cultural understandingAdapt instructional materials and activities to meet the needs of diverse learnersMonitor student participation, progress, and attendance throughout the programProvide ongoing feedback and support to students in a positive and inclusive learning environmentParticipate in instructor meetings, orientation sessions, and program-related activities as requiredCollaborate with program staff to support student success and contribute to a positive student experienceMaintain accurate records and complete required administrative tasks in a timely mannerContribute to program evaluation and provide feedback to support continuous improvementQualifications
Bachelor’s degree and TESL training recognized by TESL Canada2 - 3 years of experience teaching English to adult learners Experience in short-term international programs is considered an assetAbility to teach across English language proficiency levelsResearch-informed practice supported by continued professional developmentProven intercultural communicative competenceProficiency with educational technology, including Google Suite, MS Office, and learning management systems
