Job Duties
  • Support, plan, implement, and track restoration projects;
    Lead wildlife field surveys
  • Make wildlife management recommendations
  • Develop protocols, ensure data quality and data storage, analyze and report on findings
  • Conduct/oversee rare plant surveys and other vegetation monitoring efforts
  • Data management and analysis. Data quality checks.
  • Create presentations to support items in the Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan;
    Support the development of monthly and quarterly reports to the CSU-CEMML Project Manager/Principal Investigator.
  • Delineate areas with Global Positioning System (GPS). Determine the factors to be addressed prior to data collection
  • Other duties, as assigned

  • Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for all new hires).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver s license and meet CSU standards for driving throughout the course of employment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States by proposed start date. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
  • Must be able to comply with all applicable regulations to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Required at a minimum to complete a NACI/SF85 and successfully pass a federal background check to remain eligible for employment by CSU.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in wildlife biology, restoration ecology, habitat management, or a closely related field plus a minimum of two years of experience in the field OR a related master s degree.
  • Experience in field biology (terrestrial and/or aquatic wildlife issues, including species biology, species habitat requirements, and ecology, especially for endangered species)
  • Experience performing wildlife surveys with the flora and fauna of central/northern California or nearby areas.
  • Experience supporting habitat restoration efforts in California or nearby areas.
  • Experience writing and reviewing survey memos and technical reports.
  • Experience with ArcGIS/Arc Pro including collecting spatial data in the field and converting to a standardized GIS format, as well as creating maps and figures.
  • Experience with federal, state and local laws, regulations and requirements regarding environmental protections (e.g., Sikes Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, NEPA, etc.).
  • Ability to work in harsh environments (temperatures > 100 degrees in the summer and near-freezing temperatures in the winter), walk long distances on uneven ground.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working on military lands or on other public lands with multiple uses.
  • Experience monitoring construction sites for compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Applicants should address a minimum of two skills from the following:
  • Have experience developing and implementing rare plant surveys.
  • Hold or be able to obtain a special status species survey permit for western, yellow-billed cuckoo, vernal pool fairy shrimp, and/or vernal pool tadpole shrimp.
  • Experience conducting Residual Dry Matter (RDM) surveys on grazed pastures.
  • Background in at least one area for the following: herpetology, invertebrate zoology, entomology, mammalogy, botany, and/or bat survey work.
  • Familiar with vernal pools and fairy shrimp.
  • Knowledge of and experience with military Integrated Natural Resource Management Plans (INRMP).
Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of five years  post-degree work experience in the areas mentioned above (may include up to two years of graduate school experience).
  • Experience supporting and providing rare plant survey recommendations.
  • Experience planning, conducting, presenting, and tracking annual surveys and restoration projects.
  • Experience working on military lands and military conservation experience.
  • Experience writing, reviewing, and supporting the development of consultation and permitting documents (e.g., NEPA biological assessments, environmental assessments, Clean Water Act 404/401 permits, etc.).
  • Experience building, repairing, and maintaining wildlife habitat structures (such as wood duck boxes, raptor perches, etc.)
  • Experience verifying and delineating wetlands using USACE data sheets.
  • Experience preparing ESA section 7 consultations for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service.
  • Experience preparing/supporting/executing Integrated Natural Resources Management Plans on installations.
  • Experience identifying and implementing Best Management Practices (BMP) to avoid impacts to natural resources and to comply with environmental regulations.
Salary Range

$55,000 - $70,000
