Instrumentation and Controls Technician - Power Plant

Full‑time – Locations:
Mojave Power Plant, Hinkley, CA, and Gila Bend, AZ. Applicants must be located in the United States.

Description

Atlantica is a sustainable infrastructure company that manages renewable energy and other power and water assets. This role is based at two power plants and requires relocation to a U.S. location.

Job Summary

As the Instrumentation, Controls, & Electrical Technician (I&C Tech), you will repair, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation and electrical equipment across low and high voltage systems. The position is safety‑sensitive and requires a 12‑hour shift schedule, 7 days a week, including holidays and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and perform corrective action on process control instrumentation and control valves.
  • Calibrate electronic and pneumatic pressure transmitters and controllers.
  • Repair or replace thermocouple or RTD temperature elements.
  • Install stainless steel instrumentation tubing.
  • Troubleshoot electrical motors, plant electrical equipment, and switch gear.
  • Complete material requisitions accurately.
  • Document work performed on work orders clearly and accurately.
  • Perform tasks assigned by the I&E Supervisor.
  • Maintain good housekeeping, including company vehicles.
  • Perform all work in accordance with Atlantica’s safety policies.
  • Coordinate work activities to facilitate paid on‑duty meal and break periods during 12‑hour shifting schedules.
  • Utilize a variety of hand and power tools, test equipment, and specialized machinery such as thermography cameras and boom lifts as required.

Skills & Abilities
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, single‑line diagrams, loop drawings, and P&.
  • Carry out detailed instructions with limited supervision.
  • Apply logical and divergent reasoning to solve problems.
  • Maintain clean work areas and accurate logs/journals.
  • Perform mathematical calculations and handle technical manuals.
  • Learn and execute emergency response procedures.
  • Operate monitoring and analytical tools for assigned equipment safely.
  • Assist in training other personnel as directed.
  • Use Microsoft Office 365 and SAP for work‑order processing.
  • Operate a digital multimeter and HART communicator proficiently.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ direct experience as an I&C technician in an industrial environment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • English language proficiency (speaking, reading, writing).
  • Ability to perform physical duties requiring up to 20 pounds of force intermittently and 10 pounds continuously, including grasping, lifting, reaching, crouching, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to discern color variations.
  • Experience with emergency equipment such as respirators and self‑contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Working Conditions

Work is conducted in a normal steam power plant environment with exposure to hot and cold temperatures, sudden temperature changes, dust, noise, and moving objects. Potential hazards include minor cuts, burns, electrical shock, falling objects, slips, and hearing or vision impairment. Personal protective equipment is required, and the successful candidate must be able to legally operate company vehicles. The role requires 12‑hour shifts, day or night, with paid break and meal periods while on duty.
