As a Junior Sister / Charge Nurse
, you will be a senior member of the nursing team, providing expert clinical care, leadership, and operational coordination across a diverse range of services including angiography, CT, ultrasound, and nurse‑led sedation.
Working alongside the Band 7 leadership team, you will have the opportunity to independently assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate complex patient care while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and evidence‑based practice.
This is an exciting role for an experienced nurse looking to further develop their leadership skills within a specialist setting. You will be instrumental in coordinating daily department activity, optimising patient flow and room utilisation, and maintaining safe staffing levels to support an efficient and responsive service. You will also deputise for the Band 7 Team Leader when required, helping to ensure seamless service delivery and strong clinical leadership.
Mainduties of the job
- To work according to the NMC Code of Conduct (2008)/ HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics (2008)/HCPC Standards of Proficiency for ODP’s (2008).
- To be responsible and accountable for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision for a defined group of patients.
- To lead and monitor the performance and standards of care within the Interventional Radiology Nursing team.
- In conjunction with the Band 7 team leader, facilitate the development of the service and personal development of all staff within the clinical area of responsibility.
- To deputise for the Band 7 team leader in their absence, attending appropriate meetings, maintaining an organised and structured workforce.
- To lead the Nurses with the day-to-day operational requirements of the IR team ensuring efficient use of room utilisation whilst maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff.
- NMC / HCPC registration.
- National Safe sedation qualification
- Nursing degree or working towards a degree.
- Significant post qualification experience in a relevant clinical field.
- Leadership Course
- Formal mentorship / assessment qualification e.g. completion of the Trust associate mentorship programme.
- Relevant specialist course
- IV cannulation trained
- Own continuing professional development
- Significant post qualification experience in a relevant clinical field/ Interventional Radiology
- Relevant clinical experience in theatres.
- Experience with EPR/ EPIC system.
- Effective communication skills (verbal & written)
- Ability to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of their own clinical practice
- Ability to perform in highly stressful and complex situations
- Ability to use reflective practice to continuously improve the standard of patient care
- Works under own initiative with strong organisational skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage demanding workload
- Basic IT skills
