Counsellor - Gitksen West Secondary School

Location: Omineca and Yellowhead (Smithers)

Shape the future of students at Gitksen West Secondary School as a Counsellor. This role focuses on providing comprehensive support to students’ academic and emotional development within Gitwangak First Nation.

As a Student Family Advocate, you will deliver critical counselling services through individual and group formats, while promoting cultural relevance in education.

Your role will include working closely with students, families, and educators to enhance student success through IEPs, goal-setting, and life skills development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver individual and class counselling interventions

• Support academic success via portfolios and IEPs

• Engage with community agencies for student support

• Mentor on career paths and post-secondary education

• Promote wellness and healthy living for independence

Requirements:

• B.C. Teacher Certification is preferred

• Master’s in Counselling or related area

• Experience with First Nations children and families

• Training in mental health support techniques

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
