Job Overview Strathcona Resources Ltd. (Calgary, Alberta) is hiring an experienced Plant Operator to join the Operations Team at the Lindbergh SAGD facility. The role reports to the Shift Engineer and requires full working knowledge of safety procedures, plant equipment, and plant operations.
Responsibilities Ensure compliance with Strathcona's Health, Safety and Environment and Regulatory (HSER) policies.
Provide creative solutions and effective problem solving of issues that arise within the plant environment (troubleshooting, flagging deficiencies, recommending changes).
Focus on safety, environment, and health of employees while maximizing plant production.
Review, revise, and write Operations Procedures.
Report deficiencies, initiate MOCs, and enter work orders.
Notify leadership of emergency/upset situations impacting the facility.
Maintain logbooks with legible, informative, timestamped entries.
Compliance with ABSA, AER, and OH&S directives.
Direct maintenance and ensure completion per Strathcona procedures and work standards.
Provide responsible and effective leadership during emergency or maintenance situations.
Assist with Emergency Response Plan (ERP) drills.
Participate in safety meetings and continually strive to maintain a safe workplace.
Qualifications Minimum of a Third-Class ABSA Power Engineering Certificate of Competency (Second Class preferred).
Minimum 5 years of related industry experience with steam generation in the oil and gas industry (SAGD or CSS).
Experience with SAGD operations and strong understanding of key processes: OTSGs, water treating, oil treating, de‑oiling, evaporator systems, and Cogen power generation.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment, with strong communication and organizational skills.
Team player with strong leadership, mentorship, and communication skills.
Self‑motivated, open‑minded, results oriented.
Proven troubleshooting, problem‑solving, decision‑making, investigative and data‑analysis abilities.
Strong analytical skills, capable of resolving problems independently.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Other Details Work shift rotation (day/night) in a plant environment, including weekends, holidays, and other shift coverage as required.
Must reside in the Cold Lake or Bonnyville, AB area or be willing to relocate upon hire.
Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license (driver’s abstract required).
