About the Role

Teacher (12‑Month Fixed Term – Maternity Cover) – Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, term‑time only. Fixed Term: 12 months. Salary: £21,501 – £38,628 per annum. This role provides maternity cover at Birchwood School, Cardiff.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons aligned to individual learning needs.
  • Create a calm, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Use positive behaviour support strategies in line with school policies.
  • Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and parents/carers.
  • Support pupils’ wellbeing, including personal care where required.
  • Lead, coach, and support Learning Support Assistants to ensure high‑quality classroom practice.
  • Promote safeguarding, equality and inclusion at all times.
Essential Qualifications
  • GCSEs (A*–C or equivalent), including English and Maths.
  • A child‑centred approach and passion for inclusive education.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to support complex needs.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
  • Experience supporting or leading others in a classroom environment.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience working with pupils with Autism, SEMH or additional learning needs.
  • Confidence working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A creative, flexible and reflective approach to teaching and learning.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring support staff.
