Research Associate in Heterogeneous Catalysis
We seek to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated scientist with proven intellectual and technical abilities to work on a new international research programme. The 9‑month project, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), is part of The Sustainable Chemicals and Materials Manufacturing Hub (SCHEMA), which is led by Oxford University and involves Bath, Liverpool, Cambridge, Cardiff and York together with industrial partners.
The project will focus on the design of catalysts for the hydrogenation of carbon dioxide, synthesising these catalysts and testing them for the gas phase hydrogenation in a high‑throughput facility. The catalysts will be characterised and structure‑activity relationships will be established. The project will interact with computational scientists as an aid to catalyst design.
Applicants must hold a postgraduate degree at PhD level (or nearing completion/submission) in heterogeneous catalysis or have relevant industrial experience.
This position is full‑time (35 hours per week) and is available from 1 September 2026 for 1 year.
Salary: £41,064 – £46,049 per annum (Grade
6). It is not anticipated that an appointment be made above £41,064 per annum (Grade 6.32).
