Student Research Assistant - McPhail Lab

Location: UWG Recruiting Location

Job Summary

Student research assistants in the McPhail Lab will participate in ongoing research projects involving quantum dots. This will include the synthesis, purification, and spectroscopic characterization of quantum dots.

Responsibilities
  • Students do not need to have previous research experience but should have completed foundational chemistry coursework as described in the qualifications.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled at UWG in a minimum of 6 credit hours and have a 2.0 GPA.
  • Applicants must have passed CHEM 1211 and CHEM 1211L with at least a C and either have completed or be currently enrolled in CHEM 1212 and CHEM 1212L.
  • All work will be completed in laboratory facilities on the UWG Carrollton Campus. Applicants must be able to commute to the laboratory and commit approximately four hours per week.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
  • Work will be performed within the chemistry facilities in the TLC, including working at laboratory benchtops and fume hoods.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Chemistry majors or Materials Science B.I.S students will be given preference. Preference will also be given to applicants that have completed CHEM 2411 and 2411L.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Applicants should have a foundational knowledge of general chemistry topics typically covered in CHEM 1211.
  • Applicants are expected to be proficient in the basic laboratory methods of measuring and weighing solids and liquids.
  • Applicants should be able to use Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Applicants should have experience working safely in a chemistry lab setting.
