Position: Kenwood Part Time Custodian II (5:00-9:00PM)

Part Time Custodian II – 5:00 PM–9:00 PM

Salary Range: $21.06 per hour

Principal Duties
  • General cleaning: sweeping, cleaning carpets and blinds, emptying waste receptacles, cleaning toilet facilities, and filling dispensers.
  • Clean light fixtures and replace bulbs.
  • Perform yard work such as mowing, trimming, general cleanup and marking athletic fields.
  • Keep walks and entries clear of ice and snow.
  • Assist with receiving and storing supplies for the building cafeteria.
  • Move and arrange furniture for school functions.
  • Carry out additional requests of the building principal and engineer as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of modern cleaning methods, use and care of materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to perform minor building repairs.
  • Ability to plan, organize and carry out work schedules efficiently.
  • Responsible attitude toward job and fellow workers.
  • Excellent physical condition and willingness to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Reliability and regular attendance.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy required.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure with frequent interruptions.
  • Aptitude for detail.
  • Valid Iowa driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to represent the school district professionally, including confidentiality, communication skills, and personal image.
  • Must pass Physical Capacity Profile tests.

Ability to solve problems effectively and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, colleagues, community members, staff, and students; speak clearly and concisely in both oral and written communication; perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Physical Demands

The role requires standing, walking, climbing, using hands and fingers to handle objects, squatting, stooping, kneeling, reaching above the head, and pushing/pulling or lifting/moving heavy objects. Employees must climb a ladder with a tool belt (~10 lbs), shoveling with a 30 lb push, push/pull 40 lb effort each hand, bucket lift and pour 50 lb, office desk lift (one end) 90 lb, transfer 50 lb from ground to 41″, lift from 37″ to 67″ shelf 30 lb, carry 80 lb for 20 ft, push/pull 90 lb over 25 ft.

The job may require exerting up to 100 lb occasionally.

Working Environment

Generally quiet inside the building but may be required to work outside during hot or cold weather, rain, snow, sleet, and icy conditions. Work surfaces include tile, wood, terrazzo, and concrete; exposure to damp surfaces and cold/snow may occur.

Required Education Level

GED or High School diploma.
