Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing skilled maintenance, repair, and renovation tasks on assigned buildings, facilities, swimming pools, and grounds, including electrical, HVAC systems, plumbing, and pool maintenance.

Essential Duties
  • Perform skilled maintenance, repair, and renovation of District buildings, facilities, and equipment, across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other trades.
  • Carry out general maintenance and repair of swimming pool mechanicals (pumps, boilers) including start‑up, inspections, and winterization.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical lighting, motors, and control systems.
  • Diagnose and repair facility heating, cooling systems, and various mechanical components.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on HVAC units, pump motors, bearings, lighting, plumbing, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain, operate, and care for assigned hand tools and equipment (pickup truck, trailer, compressor, engines), inventory parts, and maintain shop inventory.
  • Track material costs and prepare purchase orders within budget guidelines.
  • Record daily activities: timecards, reports, work orders.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with District employees, vendors, and contractors.
  • Exercise good judgment and adhere to safety precautions.
  • Respond to inquiries and problems via in‑person, email, phone, or mail, handling confrontational situations tactfully.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
  • Attend work reliably and punctually.
  • Work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required; shift deviations may apply.
  • Respond to on‑call emergency callbacks 24 hours a day.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing fixtures (water heaters, valves, pipes, drains, sinks, toilets, faucets).
  • Manage electrical distribution systems and perform electrical replacements (wiring, fixtures, switches, controls, motors, pumps).
  • Lead and provide guidance to other workers as needed.
  • Operate a variety of hand, power, and motorized equipment and machinery.
  • Inspect facilities for security, safety, or needed repairs and take appropriate action.
Education and Experience
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Two (2) years of trade school in Mechanical Maintenance or a related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in a skilled mechanical trade field.
  • Other combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered if they demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements
  • Preferred:
    Boiler certification, EPA Section 608 (CFC) certification, and/or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or be able to obtain one upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of repair and routine maintenance techniques for mechanical systems in commercial recreational buildings and pools.
  • Understanding of workplace safety procedures and ability to practice proper safety precautions.
  • Ability to learn and apply electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and/or pool maintenance practices.
  • Troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills to analyze complex problems and implement corrective actions.
  • Ability to read plumbing, electrical, and HVAC blueprints.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize tasks to maximize resources.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to read directions, chemical labels, and work documents.
  • Proficiency in handling hand and power tools, motorized vehicles, and equipment with safety precautions.
  • General mechanical maintenance knowledge of hand, power, and motorized tools.
  • Compliance with District policies, rules, and safety protocols.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and special work requests.
  • Professional communication skills: tactful, clear, concise interactions with the public, administration, and contractors.
