Lead Complex Tooling Projects from Concept to Production
An established precision engineering business in Cheltenham is seeking an experienced Tool Design Engineer to take ownership of complex tooling and fixture design projects.
This is a key technical role within the organisation, responsible for leading design activity from concept through to final approval, ensuring solutions meet the highest standards of quality, manufacturability and performance.
You will work closely with clients, engineering teams and production, providing technical leadership in a high-precision, fast-paced environment.
The Role- Lead the design of press tools and fixtures using advanced CAD software (including CATIA V5)
- Manage projects from initial concept through to final approval
- Collaborate with clients to interpret technical requirements and provide expert guidance
- Ensure all designs are optimised for manufacturing, cost-efficiency and performance
- Oversee and support members of the design team
- Produce detailed technical drawings and maintain accurate documentation
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards
- Create detailed process instructions when introducing new tooling
- Support full-rate production aligned with business requirements
- Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation within the design function
- Proven experience as a Tool Design Engineer within tooling and precision engineering
- Strong CAD capability, including CATIA V5
- Essential understanding of forming processes using Hydraulic and Hydroforming Presses
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes
- Excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
- Leadership experience or the ability to mentor and support others
- Strong analytical mindset
- Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
- Independent thinker who upholds customer and quality standards
