Job Description

We are looking for an Accountant to join our team! You will be responsible for preparing and analyzing financial records for our company. The ideal candidate will have experience in auditing and Non profit/governmental sectors. Must have excellent

communication skills.

Summary:

The Accountant II is responsible for handling day to day accounting functions including but not limited to: bank reconciliations, financial statement preparation, state and federal reporting and account analysis. The Accountant is proficient with Excel, Word and PowerPoint as well as Financial Databases and Non-Profits

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reconciles monthly bank statements
  • Prepares monthly financial package for management, the Finance Committee and the Board
  • Creates 2028 documents for State Budget submission
  • Prepares Lease Reimbursement Forms
  • Prepares Journal Entries with appropriate documentation attached and that are compliant with GAAP and the State Chart of Accounts
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Grant Accounting
  • Prepares Grant Budgets and Reconciliations
  • Prepares Grant Cash Reconciliations
  • Prepares draw downs of Federal Grants
  • Prepares Budgets with the Business Manager
  • Closes school books in preparation for the annual independent audit, acts as first contact for all auditor questions and provides all documentation and schedules for auditors
  • Acts as liaison with all other auditors; school district, unemployment, worker’s comp, etc.
  • Prepares wire transfers when necessary
  • Reviews invoices for payment and requisitions to vendors for accuracy
  • Assists school staff in reconciling school-based accounts
  • Ensures schools turn in proper documentation for credit cards, debit cards, petty cash and student activities, etc.
  • Understands the State Chart of Accounts, Charter School Law, Budgeting Process and By-Laws
  • Understands the relationship between the school and its associated non profit
  • Ensures tax issues are forwarded to appropriate party; either payroll company or CPA firm
  • Works with banking institutions to establish new bank accounts
  • Provides State when necessary with updates for any changes at the school; new bank accounts, new CEO Etc.
  • Assists Accounts Payable and Payroll Processor Staff with accounting functions
  • Reconciles all other accounts and prepares reports when requested
  • Other related responsibilities and duties

Qualifications:

  • College Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • At least five years’ experience required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP Accounting
  • Working knowledge of fund accounting
  • Creative self starter and problem solver
  • Detailed oriented
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to be “hands-on”.
