Overview
This Equipment Operator II – Water Services position is located at 906 Executive Blvd. Chesapeake, VA. The role involves operating heavy equipment and supporting the installation, repair, and maintenance of the City’s water system.
What You’ll Do- Operate heavy equipment, including backhoes, dump trucks, tanker trucks, and vacuum trucks
- Install and repair water service lines and assist with water main repairs
- Restore job sites by removing debris and repairing grass, concrete, and asphalt surfaces
- Complete administrative and documentation tasks related to assigned work
Required Qualifications
- VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Requires completion of 10th grade in high school. High school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training is preferred. - EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: A minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
- SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required. Applicant must obtain a tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire. - SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
May require exposure to confined spaces. Ability to work hours in excess of normally scheduled hours in response to short-term needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal duties.
