Equipment Operator II - Water Services

Overview

This Equipment Operator II – Water Services position is located at 906 Executive Blvd. Chesapeake, VA. The role involves operating heavy equipment and supporting the installation, repair, and maintenance of the City’s water system.

• Operate heavy equipment, including backhoes, dump trucks, tanker trucks, and vacuum trucks
• Install and repair water service lines and assist with water main repairs
• Restore job sites by removing debris and repairing grass, concrete, and asphalt surfaces
• Complete administrative and documentation tasks related to assigned work

Required Qualifications

• VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
  Requires completion of 10th grade in high school. High school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training is preferred.
• EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: A minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
• SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
  Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required. Applicant must obtain a tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire.
• SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  May require exposure to confined spaces. Ability to work hours in excess of normally scheduled hours in response to short-term needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal duties.

• Basic knowledge of pipe repair techniques and maintenance is preferred.
