Job Description Summary
Chicago State University (CSU), is the oldest public university in the Chicago metropolitan area. Chicago State University is Illinois' only four-year U.S. Department of Education-designated Predominantly Black Institution (PBI). All faculty positions are governed by the tenets of a collective bargaining agreement. Faculty are hired, evaluated, retained, promoted, and tenured on the basis of conditions covered in the union contract. Primary duties include teaching and related activities assigned during a 9-month year. It is expected that each faculty member engages in all three activities of teaching, research/creative activities and service.
Teaching:
Faculty members are expected to teach 6 to 8 3-credit courses per year. Major responsibilities include the development of syllabi, teaching materials related to courses taught; and collaborate with other faculty in the development of new courses and/or programs. The faculty member will be expected to teach theoretical and activity courses in the area of health and physical education, supervise students in clinical and internship placements, advise and mentor undergraduate physical education majors and graduate thesis or capstone projects, assist with recruitment, retention and graduation of students, assist with curriculum development, accreditation, and program planning.
Some disciplines require discipline specific certifications and/or licensure in the field for practice or functioning within the State of Illinois; degree specific course work and/or graduate degrees in the discipline. In addition, faculty must have the ability to use technology in teaching and student advising, participate in professional development activities, as well as engage in assessment activities related to accreditation and program evaluation.
Research:
Faculty members are expected to engage in research and/or creative activity germane to health and physical education, which results in submissions and material as works in refereed, professional and/or general readership publications; submit and receive externally awarded grants; submit proposals for presentations at academic and professional conferences; or engage in creative pursuits if in a creative, performing or theatrical arts discipline.
Service:
Faculty members are expected to serve on committees, programs, and/or special task forces at the department, college, university, professional and community levels including state and national professional organizations; assume leadership roles over time and as they increase in rank. These activities are not for compensation and have a relationship to the employee's assigned responsibilities and to the university.
Required Education
* Academic and Professional
Experience:
Earned terminal degree from an accredited university or earned 60 hours of credit towards the doctoral degree; completion of degree within the first year of employment (ABD);
* Meets or capable of meeting tenure and/or rank requirements from a discipline within the unit as defined by the collective bargaining unit;
* Previous academic experience at a four year college or university: 0 to 8 years teaching experience as determined by rank criteria;
* Previous professional experience related to the discipline: 0 to 8 years as determined by the discipline and rank criteria; and Record of scholarly research, creative activity in a discipline as well as receipt of competitive grants or externally awarded funding.

Skills and Abilities
* Experience having presentations accepted at the regional, national, and/or international level;
* Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising, including online environments and other uses of cutting-edge technologies;
* Experience advising students enrolled in the undergraduate and graduate programs;
* Experience working collegially with individuals from culturally diverse and ethnic backgrounds, including colleagues from other programs, community leaders, policy-making bodies, and/or physical education professional associations. At least 3…
