Access Services Librarian
Chicago State University Library – Full‑time, 12‑month tenure‑track appointment (Assistant Professor). Salary: $73,000 – $78,000 annually.
Job SummaryThe Library seeks an energetic and innovative, service‑oriented individual to lead, oversee, and strategically plan Access Services. The successful candidate will coordinate circulation, interlibrary loan, course reserves, and stacks maintenance while supervising staff and student workers.
Responsibilities- Lead planning, development, and coordination of Access Services operations (circulation, interlibrary loan, course reserves).
- Supervise civil‑service staff and hire, train, and schedule student workers.
- Manage the library’s main service point and interpret applicable access‑services policies.
- Communicate and develop policies that reflect current best practices.
- Manage stacks and collaborate with the Systems Librarian to ensure access to materials in the Automated Storage Retrieval System.
- Collaborate with the Systems Librarian to test, evaluate, and troubleshoot software and equipment.
- Create instructional guides and training materials for Access Services functions.
- Collect, analyze, and present data on library services.
- Participate in library initiatives such as Open Access and Student Success.
- Engage in department, university, and professional service activities; contribute to research and creative projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned; occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA‑accredited program.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Minimum two years of professional experience in Access Services at an academic library.
- At least two years of supervisory experience.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, time‑management, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and to initiate and implement changes in a fast‑paced setting.
- Commitment to diversity and understanding of a diverse workforce.
- Knowledge of copyright rules for interlibrary loan and course reserves.
- Ability to meet contractual and unit performance criteria for primary duties, research, and service.
- Experience with Alma/Primo VE.
- Proven track record of cross‑department collaboration.
- Experience with interlibrary loan management software (e.g., World Share ILL, Illiad, or Tipasa).
- Experience with the learning management system Bright Space (D2L).
