AWS/CES is looking for a Controls Engineer – Direct Hire, Chicago, IL
Shift:
Fri-Sat 6am-6pm) and (Sun Monday 6pm-6am
Salary: $90,000 – $100,000 + Bonus Structure
We are seeking a Controls Engineer to lead efforts in designing, implementing, and maintaining automated control systems that support safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations. This role plays a key part in reducing downtime, improving quality, and driving continuous improvement through automation and controls optimization.
The ideal candidate is an innovative, data-driven problem solver with a passion for automation and operational excellence.
What You’ll Do- Support production by reducing or eliminating equipment and tooling downtime and scrap using analytical troubleshooting methods
- Design, program, test, and commission control systems (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA) from startup through production handoff
- Program and modify automated equipment to meet production, safety, and quality standards
- Design and specify electronic controls, including reviewing vendor proposals and recommending appropriate control devices
- Maintain and improve process control systems to ensure reliability, efficiency, and compliance with safety/environmental standards
- Drive plant and process improvements including automation upgrades, equipment selection, layout changes, and ergonomic enhancements
- Document controls projects and activities; support maintenance teams and communicate risks or issues to leadership
- Associate degree (2-year) in a related field and at least 1 year of controls/automation experience, or equivalent experience
- Experience with HMI/SCADA systems (Wonderware, Rockwell, Cimplicity, Iconics, Siemens, etc.)
- Strong electrical and mechanical knowledge, including panel design, schematics, and blueprint reading
- Experience with industrial networks (Control Net, Device Net), VFDs, and I/O systems
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment (standing/sitting throughout the day)
- Approximately 20% travel for project support and equipment commissioning
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must follow all safety and environmental policies
