Position: Production Welder (Minonk, IL) O'Brien Steel

Pay: $26.00 – $30.00 per hour (based on experience and shift)

Position Overview

We are hiring Production Welders to support fabrication and production operations across the Minonk facility. This role is responsible for welding and fabricating mild-steel components to meet customer specifications while ensuring quality and consistency.

Employees in this role may perform GMAW / MIG welding and fabrication tasks involving laying out, fitting, and assembling steel components. This role may also utilize robotic or cobotic equipment to assist in the weld process. This position may support multiple areas of the operation based on experience and business needs.

+2 years of welding experience is preferred for this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform GMAW / MIG welding and fabrication of steel components to specification
  • Set up and operate welding equipment, including gas metal arc and other welding processes
  • Utilize fixtures, templates, and jigs to layout component parts for fabrication
  • Prepare materials by fitting, clamping, grinding, or tack welding prior to final weld
  • Follow established weld processes to minimize distortion or defects in finished parts
  • Inspect finished welds and components to ensure conformance with specifications
  • Operate basic fabrication tools and equipment as needed
  • Read and interpret blueprints and work instructions
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Work with supervisors and team members to meet production schedule and goals
Qualifications & Skills
  • 2+ years of welding experience preferred
  • Ability to successfully complete a 1G weld test
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings
  • Ability to use a tape measure or other measuring devices
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools
  • Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, and/or climb for extended periods (8+ hours per shift)
  • Ability to wear required welding PPE, including fire-resistant gear, for extended periods
  • Work is performed indoors in a non-climate controlled manufacturing facility
Shift & Scheduling

Multiple shifts are available. Applicants will have the opportunity to indicate their preferred shift during the application process. 2nd and 3rd shift positions may include additional pay through a shift differential. Final shift assignment will be based on business needs and applicant experience.

Overtime opportunities may be available based on workload and production needs.
