POSITION TITLE: Foundation Grant Writer LOCATION/DEPT: DHQ-Development REPORTS TO (TITLE): Director of Foundation Relations FLSA CATEGORY: Exempt STATUS TYPE: Full-Time OUTCOMESThe Foundation Grant Writer will work with the Director of Foundation Relations with all development functions, including identifying, researching and pursuing potential grant opportunities available through foundations. This position will develop proposals and letters of inquiries; ensure that the department meets grant deadlines; and will work in maintaining the donor database. Further, he/she will ensure that all communication, documentation and marketing materials are available for submission to foundations. The Foundation Grants Manager will also work in the preparation, editing and submission of grant proposals and progress reports. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop plans for generating increased income through the grants area.Develop effective fundraising strategies for appropriate targets.Devise annual and monthly work plans.Maintain and update Foundation Relations reports.Maintain a portfolio of the names of contact people working at foundations, who have the capacity to make major grants and gifts.An effective relationship is maintained with members of the foundation community.Keep the Director apprised of grant guidelines and deadlines.Develop acknowledgement letters, pledge reminders, etc.Research, compile and analyze demographic data as needed for grants.Research local newspapers and other publications, including Internet news, and note significant philanthropic activities.Develop an understanding of programs and sites of the Metropolitan Division through regular and ongoing interaction and relationships with Corps and program directors. Maintain working knowledge of foundation and corporate guidelines.Perform research to identify suitable funding prospects.Other duties as assigned. Qualifications EDUCATION/EXPERIENCEMinimum of BA or BS degree in a social services or business field is required. BA preferred.3 years of experience in Social Services or Business is required. The qualified candidate will also have experience in proposal development, managing donor records, and stewardship.COMPETENCIES:Willing to promote the mission of The Salvation Army.Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
