JOB SUMMARY:
NORC at the University of Chicago is seeking a Research Associate I to join the Health Sciences Research Department. NORC’s Health Sciences team works with clients to develop and test field-based surveys and interventions designed to improve care delivery, disseminate, and implement successful evidence-based programs, and engage stakeholders to enhance quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes. This Research Associate I will be responsible for providing general support with both research projects and department administration.
The ideal candidate will possess a broad interest in improving health care delivery and quality by supporting rigorous research in diverse, real-world settings. The successful candidate will also provide general administrative support for the department’s activities and project portfolio.
Location:
This is a hybrid role based in our Chicago Loop office, with a minimum of six days per month in the office. Qualified applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. We regret that we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position now or in the future DEPARTMENT:
Health Sciences NORC’s Health Sciences staff produce rich data on health care priorities including the use of innovative survey methods, the use of electronic clinical data in research, and the applications and effectiveness of health information technology. Our experts evaluate the effectiveness of federal investments in informatics and support the emerging fields of patient-centered outcomes research and mobile health. The staff also work on large implementation science projects involving patient safety and quality.
NORC’s Health Sciences staff work closely with colleagues across the organization to offer program, policy, and research solutions. Our work is guided by a commitment to long-lasting partnerships, transparency, and high-quality, nonpartisan research that improves health and health care for all people. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide general research support on quantitative and qualitative research projects. Prepare background research including literature reviews and environmental scans on key topics. Test data collection instruments and systems. Assist with data preparation, data cleaning, and coding. Conduct statistical analyses of survey data for research reports or ad-hoc as needed. Contribute to the preparation of reports, tables, and graphs based on findings.
Assist with tasks related to business development such as providing proposal support. Take notes at meetings and prepare initial draft of minutes.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Bachelor's degree in political science, psychology, communications, survey methodology, or other social science discipline required. 6 months of research experience (internships included) in social sciences with qualitative and/or quantitative methods and analysis required. Outstanding interpersonal, critical reasoning, analytic, and writing skills. Strong problem-solving capabilities. Demonstrated attentiveness to detailed tasks, strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to meet multiple efforts' requirements simultaneously, and to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including MS Teams, SharePoint, One Note. Experience conducting analysis using standard statistical software packages (e.g., SAS, NVivo) is beneficial. Occasional travel for site visits and meetings may be required. This is a hybrid role based in our Chicago Loop or Washington, DC office, with a minimum of six days per month in the office.
