Our client is a global freight forwarder specializing in complex, heavy, and high-value cargo with deep roots in defense logistics. Founded in 1991 they offer end-to-end logistics solutions including air, ocean, and multimodal transport.
This role leads the Government Air Export operations team, overseeing execution, service quality, compliance, and profitability. The focus is on managing complex international shipments tied to government contracts while driving operational excellence and leading a tenured team.
Job Function NotesOversee daily operations of the Government Air Export team (4 tenured specialists). Responsible for service levels, quality programs, customer service, rate negotiation, airline and agent agreements, and overall profitability. Develop air routing strategies, build door-to-door logistics plans, and ensure performance metrics are met.
Work Schedule and TravelOpen to remote with ~1 week/month travel depending on candidate. Travel required for team and operational oversight.
Ideal Candidate Background- Must have 5+ years managing an air export operations team within a freight forwarding environment.
- Must currently work, or have recently worked, for a freight forwarding company.
- Must be a superstar leader.
- Team management.
- Be able to provide a clear example of leading a team through change or operational improvement.
- Must bring deep air export operational knowledge specifically moving:
Class 1 dangerous goods (the most explosive of explosives and lithium batteries). DG certification preferred. - Must have a strong understanding of international airline routing (Middle East, Japan, Europe, etc.): knowing which airports and airlines to use for specific commodities in order to meet transit deadlines.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Strong preference for candidates who have worked with USTRANSCOM, Global Heavyweight Services (GHS), Global Freight Management (GFM) / GFM Bid Board, Air Tender Program.
- Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. Master’s degree is a plus.
- Active or previous security clearance is a plus.
