Westside Surgical Center is an ambulatory surgery center located in Cincinnati, Ohio. With two operating rooms and four procedure rooms, the center provides high-quality, cost-effective outpatient procedural care primarily for GI, endoscopies, and ophthalmology.
Owned and operated in partnership with BSMH, Gastro Health, and Compass Surgical Partners, the Westside Center combines advanced technology with compassionate, patient-centered care in a convenient setting.
Role SummaryThe Pre-Admission Testing RN conducts comprehensive preoperative assessments to ensure patients are medically optimized and fully prepared for surgery. This role verifies required testing, identifies potential risks, coordinates with anesthesia and surgical teams, and supports patient safety, comfort, and education throughout the pre‑admission process. Cross‑coverage as needed into pre‑op, procedure, and PACU.
Hours- Full‑time Monday‑Friday; hours between 6:00 am – 5:00 pm
- No nights, weekends, holidays, or call
- Perform thorough pre‑admission nursing assessments, including medical history review, physical evaluation, and verification of required testing
- Identify abnormal results and communicate findings to anesthesia and admitting providers
- Ensure all pre‑op documentation is complete, accurate, and available prior to surgery
- Educate patients and families on the perioperative experience, expectations, and care instructions
- Support patient safety, risk‑management, and quality‑improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with anesthesia, surgeons, and perioperative staff to ensure consistent patient information and readiness for surgery
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and age‑appropriate care
- Participate in staff education, orientation, and ongoing professional development
- Demonstrate flexibility with scheduling needs and assist in adjusting workloads as needed
- Active RN license
- Current BLS and ACLS certification
- Associate’s degree or higher in nursing
- Strong assessment skills, communication abilities, and patient‑advocacy focus
- Comfort using EMR systems and Microsoft Windows‑based programs
Work Environment Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, and patient‑care activities
- Ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs (occasionally up to 40 lbs; rarely up to 100 lbs)
- Regular interaction with patients of varying ages in a fast‑paced clinical environment
- Exposure to blood borne pathogens, radiation, and chemical hazards consistent with the surgical setting
- Moderate noise typical of clinical and administrative areas
