Mechanical Project Engineer (P.E.)

HVAC & Systems Integration | Cleanroom & Radiation Shielding

Cleveland, OH
• Direct Hire • $130,000-$155,000 + Performance Bonus

The Opportunity

Our client is a nationally recognized specialty contractor with 40+ years of experience designing and building clean rooms, dry rooms, and radiation shielding systems. Their roster includes NASA, Blue Origin, Lockheed Martin, GE, Cleveland Clinic, and ASML. This is not a coordination role or a field PM position - this is the lead internal design authority for two of the company's most technical and highest-margin service lines.

Reporting directly to the President, you will own the internal mechanical and HVAC engineering process from concept to P.E.

-stamped construction documents. If you have an active P.E. license, deep HVAC expertise in controlled environments, and the technical range to work across BIM, Solid Works component engineering, and regulatory compliance - this is a high-impact role doing genuinely complex work.

Why This Role
  • Direct report to the President - immediate visibility and impact
  • Work on projects for some of the most recognized names in aerospace, defense, healthcare, and semiconductor manufacturing
  • Own the full engineering lifecycle - not reviewing or coordinating someone else's work
Stable, 40+ year company with a proprietary product line and a differentiated market position

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary: $130,000-$155,000 depending on experience
  • Performance bonus: 10-15% tied to project completions
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Retirement plan
  • Paid time off
What You'll Do

Internal Engineering & HVAC Design Leadership
  • Serve as the primary design authority for modular clean rooms and shielding systems - leading internal mechanical and HVAC design including airflow, HEPA/ULPA filtration, and pressurization
  • Perform and document all mechanical engineering calculations: heat load analysis, psychrometrics, and fluid dynamics
  • Review and approve internal design packages ensuring compliance with ISO cleanroom standards and radiation attenuation requirements
  • Direct the creation of Revit models for architectural and MEP integration - ensuring designs are clash-free before fabrication
Technical Oversight & Quality Control
  • Ensure all designs align with regulatory standards for medical, nuclear, and ISO-rated environments
  • Manage the engineering of proprietary components (hinges, latches, seals) using Solid Works for component-level modeling and structural analysis
  • Conduct QC visits to fabrication facilities and project sites to verify physical installations match P.E.

    -approved specifications
Partner Coordination
  • Serve as the expert technical point of contact for external partners, ensuring their facility systems align with internal design requirements
  • Manage the RFI and submittal process - reviewing vendor data for compliance with the engineered design
What You Bring

Licensing & Education
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required - HVAC or Mechanical Engineering specialization
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
Technical Skills
  • Expert-level HVAC knowledge for controlled environments - air balancing, environmental controls, HEPA/ULPA systems
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit/AutoCAD for BIM and facility integration
  • Solid Works proficiency for component-level modeling and assembly analysis
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in design-build construction
Core Competencies
  • Ability to take a project from concept to P.E.

    -stamped construction documents
  • Proficiency in statics, dynamics, and thermal analysis
  • Ability to translate complex engineering requirements to fabrication and installation teams
