Job Description:
SUMMARY
Administers and supports administrative and academic applications across the College. Responsible for the installation, upgrade, maintenance and support of both administrative and academic applications, including their respective database and server environments. Participates in technical strategic planning sessions to ensure that the College is well positioned for the future.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Responds to, investigates, and resolves issues reported by end-users for supported applications, the associated backend databases, and all interfaced applications
* Monitors and optimizes the performance of all associated server environments
* Maintains database and middleware (Tomcat, Apache, etc.) server software as necessary
* Maintains the servers (Windows Server, Linux, UNIX, etc.) as necessary
* Maintains all associated disaster recovery environments
* Develops and maintains the necessary troubleshooting documentation
* Cross-trains team members to ensure support continuity
* Updates associated with application architecture diagrams as changes are made
* Acts as primary liaison to the associated vendor Help Desk for issue resolution
* Applies security patches as necessary
* Develops and maintains scripts (shell, perl, batch, etc.) as necessary
* Provides before, after hours, and weekend support to resolve application issues as necessary
* Recommends the necessary server configurations (disk, memory, etc.) in order to support new applications
* Installs, upgrades, and configures new middleware server software, database software and applications as necessary
* Applies software patches and performs major upgrades as necessary
* Provides before, after hours, and weekend support for migrations and upgrades as necessary
* Identifies and evaluates new tools and solutions for improved application and server management
* Performs capacity planning (disk, memory, etc.), as well as short-term and long-term upgrade planning
* Provides analysis, consultation, and recommendations to project teams, especially as they relate to the associated environment
* Identifies cross-training and documentation opportunities
* Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
* Bachelor's Degree in I.T., Computer Science, or related field
* Significant related experience may substitute for education
* Minimum of five years of full-time professional experience in a related field
* Demonstrated experience with Windows Server (2019, 2022) and various Linux flavors (Red Hat, Oracle for Linux, etc.)
* Demonstrated experience with relational databases (Oracle, MS SQL, etc.)
* Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team
* Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem-solving methods in adaptive situations
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
* Possess knowledge of TCP/IP, Ethernet, firewalls, routing and load balancing
* Possess knowledge of database connectivity issues
* Possess Knowledge of how applications (Java, ASP/C#.NET, etc.) function
* Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently
* Possess working knowledge of systems administration concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focus
* Demonstrated basic Visio skills
* Demonstrated basic Project Management skills
* Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Access
* Demonstrated advanced proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point
* Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity
* Ability to collaborate, persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects
* Ability to collaborate, negotiate and resolve conflicts on major projects
* Ability to facilitate top-level collaboration while managing sensitive issues
* Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance workflow and quality
