Wordpress Application Developer Tier 1

Howdy! We’re thunder::tech, an innovative integrated marketing agency headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. We’re seeking a detail-oriented Word Press Developer to join our Development Department.

Our Development Department partners with strategy, design, and front-end teams to bring engaging, content-driven digital experiences to life. This role is focused on building, customizing, and maintaining Word Press-based websites that are performant, accessible, and easy to manage.

This position is well-suited for someone who enjoys CMS-driven development, custom theming, and working closely with designers and content teams.

• Develop, customize, and maintain Word Press websites
• Build custom Word Press themes and plugins to meet project requirements
• Implement designs with attention to responsiveness, accessibility, and performance
• Integrate Word Press with third-party services, APIs, and marketing tools
• Maintain and optimize Word Press databases and site performance
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve site issues across environments
• Collaborate with designers, front‑end developers, and project managers
• Provide project updates and technical guidance to internal teams
• Stay current with Word Press core updates, plugin ecosystems, and security best practices

• Strong experience developing with Word Press
• Proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, and Java Script
• Experience creating custom themes and plugins (not just page builders)
• Understanding of Word Press performance, security, and deployment best practices

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• 1–3 years of professional Word Press development experience
• Experience working with modern Word Press workflows, including:
  • Custom themes (block or classic)
  • Plugin development
  • Git-based source control
• Familiarity with hosting platforms, staging environments, and deployment workflows
• This position provides a market‑competitive base salary between $55,000 and $65,000, with the final amount determined by the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
