Data Analyst

Job Summary The Benefits Systems Data Analyst plays a key role within a benefits insurance brokerage environment, supporting data-driven consulting across employer-sponsored health and welfare plans. This role is responsible for working extensively with detailed medical and pharmacy claims data, translating large datasets into actionable insights that inform benefit strategy, cost management, and client decision-making. This individual will develop a deep understanding of group benefits, including plan design, funding arrangements, stop‑loss structures, and clinical drivers of cost.

The role partners closely with analytics, consulting, account management, and external vendors to ensure accurate, timely, and comprehensive data is available for reporting, underwriting support, and strategic analysis. This individual supports the ongoing development, optimization, and governance of the enterprise data warehouse and related analytical systems, ensuring delivery of high‑quality, scalable, and reliable data assets.

• Works directly with detailed medical and pharmacy claims data (eligibility, utilization, diagnosis, procedure, and prescription data) to support client analytics and reporting deliverables
• Ensures the completeness and accuracy of medical and pharmacy datasets by validating incoming data feeds from carriers, TPAs, strategic solution vendors, and PBMs as they are ingested into the data warehouse, prior to integration into reporting structures
• Partner closely with analytics colleagues and service teams to understand client needs, source and validate data, and develop insightful, visually compelling deliverables that support decision‑making
• Translate business questions into data requirements and technical solutions, balancing customization with scalable, repeatable design
• Serves as a functional owner of data warehouse structures, supporting data modeling, data integrity, and ongoing platform optimization
• Acts as a primary liaison with data vendors and carrier partners to manage data intake processes, troubleshoot issues, and ensure timely, accurate data delivery
• Maintains and enhances client‑level data structures, ensuring proper organization, hierarchy management, and efficient handling of exceptions
• Operates as a power user of the enterprise data warehouse, proactively identifying opportunities to leverage new features and expand analytical capabilities
• Designs and builds reusable tools, templates, and reporting frameworks that improve efficiency and consistency across clients and internal teams
• Contributes to dashboarding strategy, visualization standards, and best practices for scalable reporting
• Explores new technologies and analytical approaches, bringing forward ideas that enhance automation, insight generation, and team effectiveness

• 1–3+ years of experience in database administration, data analytics, business intelligence, or a similar field
• Hands‑on experience across the full BI lifecycle, including requirements gathering, data preparation, development, testing, and deployment
• Strong ability to explore, manipulate, and interpret complex datasets to uncover insights and identify data issues
• Advanced Excel skills (including VBA or similar automation techniques)
• Proficiency in SQL; experience querying large, relational datasets preferred
• Exposure to Python or similar scripting languages for automation and data workflows is a strong plus
• Understanding of data structures, data quality concepts, and system‑driven reporting environments
• Strong attention to detail, particularly when working with clinical and quantitative data
