Position: CHEER COACH - MIDDLE SCHOOL

Performance Responsibilities

The following duties are typical for this position. Additional duties may be required and assigned as needed.

Program Leadership & Student Development
  • Trains and coaches cheerleaders during in season and off season practice periods.
  • Promotes and develops a unified, collaborative cheer program representing both middle schools.
  • Provides instruction that promotes teamwork, self discipline, leadership, sportsmanship, responsibility, and self confidence.
  • Maintains discipline, encourages team morale, and supports a positive school community culture.
Compliance & Professional Expectations
  • Complies with school and district policies, as well as TSSAA rules.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of school, district, TSSAA, and UCA policies and implements them consistently.
  • Attends required meetings and submits all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Completes all required rules exams, safety trainings, and meetings.
  • Represents both schools and Collierville Schools professionally in all settings.
Operations & Administrative Duties
  • Supervises all practices, performances, games, team events, and team travel.
  • Works collaboratively with the athletic training staff on student athlete safety and injury protocols.
  • Maintains accurate inventory of uniforms and equipment for combined CMS and WCMS team.
  • Coordinates schedules for games, performances, and events with approval of Athletic Directors and designated school representatives.
  • Ensures safety of cheer practice spaces, facilities, and equipment; communicates issues to Maintenance/Operations as needed.
Communication & Community Engagement
  • Maintains positive and professional relationships with parents, students, staff, and the community.
  • Works collaboratively with Booster Club to support program needs.
  • Maintains good public relations with media, Booster Club, parent volunteers, and school community stakeholders.
Additional Duties
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support the success of the combined middle school cheer program.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of TBI/FBI background check through Collierville Schools.
  • Valid Tennessee Teacher License (if applicable) or NFHS Coaching Certification.
  • Ability to organize, supervise, and lead a cheer program.
  • Previous cheer coaching experience.
  • Knowledge of cheer safety guidelines, skill progressions, and current best practices; willingness to continue professional development.
  • Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and serves as a positive role model for middle school students.

    Ability to analyze, classify, and prioritize program data and apply standards appropriately.
  • Human Interaction:
    Ability to provide effective supervision, guidance, and support to students, staff, and volunteers.
  • Equipment & Materials:
    Ability to operate and manage cheer related equipment safely.
  • Verbal Aptitude:
    Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively.
  • Mathematical Aptitude:
    Ability to perform basic computations including percentages, decimals, and schedule/time calculations.
  • Functional Reasoning:
    Ability to interpret and apply rules, instructions, and procedures with sound judgment.
  • Situational Reasoning:
    Ability to make decisions using measurable criteria and program goals.
ADA COMPLIANCE
  • Physical Ability:
    Must be able to exert light to moderate physical effort, including lifting up to 50 lbs., spotting stunts, and demonstrating skills as needed.
  • Sensory Requirements:
    Ability to visually assess safety and perform oral communication effectively.
  • Environmental Factors:
    Must be able to work in indoor and outdoor environments and occasionally manage challenging interactions.
