Position:  10th-12th Grade English Instructor

This position involves teaching 2-4 sections of English courses for dual-enrolled high school students. Course content includes English composition, introduction to literary analysis, and world literature. Instructor must adhere to all applicable policies of Granite Classical Tutorials as well as Belhaven University which issues the college credit for dual-enrollment courses.
For the 2020-21 academic year, courses may include:
• ENG101 for exceptional 10th graders. (Composition and style theory)
• ENG 101 for 11th graders. (Composition and style theory)
• ENG 102 for 11th graders. (Introduction to literary analysis)
• ENG 203 for 11th graders. (Survey of World Lit. I – ancients through Restoration)

These courses are part of a larger sequence of integrated humanities studies undertaken by Granite Classical high school students called Omnibus. These Omnibus courses are team-taught by an English instructor and a history instructor. To ensure a successful integration of subjects,  instructors are expected to follow the syllabus and curriculum provided by Granite Classical Tutorials.

• $1250 per weekly classroom hour. We anticipate up to 4 weekly classroom hours for this position. Other afternoon courses (lower high school and middle school) may be available for qualified candidates looking for additional classes.

• Instructor must be a committed, Bible-believing Christian and must in agreement with Granite Classical Tutorials’ statement of faith. Instructor must also be in agreement with Belhaven University’s statement of faith and will be asked to provide a personal written testimony to the university.
• Master’s degree in English with a minimum 18 graduate semester hours in English.
• Experience teaching high school students and/or college freshmen preferred.

Time Requirements:
• Must attend GCT’s tutor training. Training for 2020 will be held 1-2 days in June and 1-2 days in August. Exact dates TBD.
• Classes meet M/W between 8:30 and 11:30 A.M. All tutors are expected to attend a 15 minute M/W faculty meeting at 8:00 A.M. Classes begin Sept. 9, 2020, and end May 26, 2021.

Masters,   Less than 1 Year work experience
Classroom management
Experience in classical eudcation preferred. Teaching methods include Socratic discussion and mimetic teaching.
