Job DescriptionJob Summary: Conducts performance and reliability testing on engines, components, systems, and controls.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct performance and reliability testing on multiple and single cylinder engines, components, systems, and controls; diagnose engines, components, systems, controls, and test cell problems and initiate appropriate resolutions.
- Configure and operate data acquisition systems; analyze and review data for appropriateness; write computer programs to assist in analysis and data interpretation; configure engine test programs; interpret results; make necessary adjustments; document, define data collected, and maintain electronic files.
- Perform rig, engine, and component builds, tear down, and inspections.
- Grade and measure components.
- Create sketches for machining and fabricate necessary piping, tubing, and brackets from prints and drawings.
- Install engines and instrumentation of engines and components in test cells and test rigs.
- Use common tools such as Calterm, Asset, Cyflex, etc.
- Design, document, and execute test plans; provide input during the creation of test plans; prepare test reports to include findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Understand and apply appropriate company and department rules and guidelines to work.
- Work with and train apprentices and technicians.
- Interface with customers, suppliers, engineers, and other functions.
- Coordinate programs including planning, scheduling, ordering, and tracking.
- Participate in the maintenance of quality procedures.
- Lead and participate in improvement projects.
- Develop and give presentations to customers and suppliers.
- Know and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate confidentiality as required.
- Participate in self‑ and team‑audits and associated corrective action.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties, as required, to get the job done.
Competencies:
- Data Acquisition – Prepare samples, verify equipment calibration and perform tests according to an approved standard procedure or work instruction to ensure trusted data delivered to the engineer or customer.
- Data Reporting – Prepare documentation that clearly organizes and presents testing methods, instrument settings, data, and analysis to allow the engineer and customer to understand results and form accurate conclusions and recommendations.
- Product Function Test System Design – Interpret test equipment specifications, select and integrate appropriate equipment, instrumentation and software to control boundary conditions and collect measurement data; assess capability of lab equipment against requirements and support infrastructure.
- Test Article Build – Assemble test articles according to test requirements, including installation or accommodations for instrumentation, allowing successful product functional testing.
- Test Setup and Configuration – Interpret test plans to determine optimal location and orientation within a test space in accordance with local safety and environmental requirements; fabricate required system with appropriate materials.
