Position Summary

The role of our Strategic Purchasing Manager is responsible for conducting sourcing activities from both local and international suppliers, supporting the procurement teams’ objectives to attain business targets in quality, delivery, cost effectiveness and project management. All activities will fully support product development and resourcing strategies both locally and globally.

Strategic Sourcing, Supplier Management, Measurement & Tracking, & Continuous Improvement

  • Develops and executes sourcing strategies for assigned products/commodities. Responsible for category performance in terms of quality, delivery and cost; to include associated inventory management including turnover (i.e. DIO, DPO)
  • Responsible for decisions that have a moderate to high level of impact on the business
  • Manages supplier relationships and assists in building effective partnerships as well as identifying strategic opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions
  • Defines the Supply Chain strategy with the Director Supply Chain, Americas as necessary
  • Executes the entire sourcing process starting with supplier assessment through RFQ, quote analysis, negotiation, supplier selection/approval, sample order, parts approval and production
  • Develops supplier relationships with suppliers and potential suppliers through detailed communications, material requirements, and pricing objectives. Primary point of contact for supplier-related activities, including delivery performance, quality compliance, and financial performance. Will also establish plans to ensure supplier improvement over time
  • Assists and provides support to the procurement buyers in negotiation and leverage opportunities and identifies opportunities to maximize effectiveness and efficiency of the strategic sourcing process
  • Partners with the global supply chain teams by sharing pertinent data and cost analyses as required to establish optimal global supply chain management strategies
  • Measures supply chain risk with regular supplier evaluations on performance. Manages and communicates this information with both the suppliers and internal parties (i.e. Finance, Production, Engineering, Global internal customers)
  • Identifies alternative low cost solutions
  • Verifies that RFQ documentation is accurate and complete, allowing suppliers to provide accurate quotations and to build to specifications
  • Works with cross-discipline teams to both qualify and regularly audit suppliers
  • Possesses a full understanding of the supply market trends including raw material (or COMEX) information, and/or competitive information
  • Participates with leadership on supplier contract negotiations and selection
  • Coordinates with engineering team for product/project sourcing activities
  • Sources product and materials according to drawing specifications and project requirements
  • Works within the procurement group, as well as other teams to improve processes as well as coordinates with the procurement planners to ensure that preferred strategy is being followed and/or executed
  • Identifies potential trends & issues within the supply chain and recommends appropriate, cost-effective solutions
  • Effectively identifies problems as they occur and takes appropriate steps to solve them in situations where the problem is difficult or complex
  • Establishes good network with internal & external customers
  • Project Management

  • Assists the project management processes for innovation, local industrialization, global sourcing and global cost reductions. Supply Chain excellence is essential for these areas to be successful
  • Assists as needed to internal/external customers to secure completed documentation at various project stages including MSDS, RoHS, harmony and tariff code
  • Plans, coordinates and follows-up on tasks with appropriate engineering team members
  • Responsible for the documentation and communication of project status with all stakeholder
  • LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

    Direct leadership responsibilities of buyers within the Supply Chain team. Leadership responsibilities include all aspects of the talent lifecycle: talent acquisition, talent development, performance management, coaching and developing.

    Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Purchasing Management, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering or related field; 6-8 years’ experience in procurement or materials management/supplier negotiation with 2-3 years of demonstrated experience; or equivalent combination of work experience and education, Master’s degree preferred. Lighting Manufacturing Procurement experience a plus.
  • Experience in multi-national sourcing, negotiations, and supplier management. International Sourcing and Supply Chain experience is a plus.
  • Experience with managing and monitoring budget activity
  • Significant mechanical/electrical sourcing experience
  • In depth knowledge of current best-in class supplier qualification processes and supplier performance metrics
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to perform and produce results in a team environment. Experience with presentations of complex issues to upper and executive management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; superior negotiation skills a must.
  • Ability to use web-enabled in-house systems; ERP experience helpful. SAP experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, think creatively, solve problems; ability to make timely, effective, fact based decisions and take initiative
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to assimilate data from various sources and synthesize inputs into actionable, cost-effective plans
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/priorities
  • Travel requirement: 10-15% both domestic and international; Must be willing to work non-standard work hours as needed/required
  • APICS and/or ISM certification a plus
  • Engineering background and/or the ability to read, understand and explain engineering drawings and/or working knowledge of Solid Works PDM strongly preferred
  • Advanced skillset in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
  • Strong experience in the sourcing and screening of top qualified companies in the US. LCC sourcing experience in Asia & South America preferred
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to thrive in pressure-filled situations with aggressive timelines
  • Have a cross cultural understanding and be able to work with colleagues globally
  • Spoken and written English fluency is required; the ability to speak multiple languages a plus
