Chester Point Marina is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Marine Mechanic / Volvo Penta Certified Technician to join our team at a high-end, full-service boatyard. The ideal candidate will possess strong diagnostic and repair skills, extensive knowledge of marine propulsion systems, and the ability to work independently while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship and customer service.
This position involves servicing a wide range of vessels with a focus on Volvo Penta gasoline and diesel engines, IPS drives, sterndrives, Yamaha outboards, Westerbeke diesel generators, and associated marine systems.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain marine engines and related systems
- Perform scheduled maintenance and repairs on Volvo Penta gasoline and diesel engines
- Service and repair Volvo Penta IPS systems, sterndrives, transmissions, and EVC controls
- Diagnose and repair Yamaha outboards and associated fuel and electrical systems
- Service and maintain Westerbeke diesel engines and generators
- Troubleshoot and repair marine electrical, fuel, cooling, steering, hydraulic, plumbing, and sanitation systems
- Utilize Volvo Penta diagnostic software and electronic service tools
- Perform engine removals, installations, alignments, and sea trials as needed
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and service bulletins
- Complete detailed service reports and communicate effectively with management and customers
- Work closely with the Service Manager and Yard Foreman to prioritize and complete projects efficiently
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow all company safety standards and manufacturer service procedures
- Volvo Penta factory training and/or certification required
- Minimum 5+ years of marine mechanical experience preferred
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities
- Experience with IPS drives, EVC systems, Yamaha outboards, and marine diesel systems strongly preferred
- Extensive knowledge of marine systems and vessel operation
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical service manuals
- Knowledge of marine electrical and electronic systems
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Valid driver’s license required
- Experience with diesel engine diagnostics and repair
- ABYC certifications a plus
- Welding or fabrication experience a plus
- Familiarity with additional marine engine brands and systems

This is a hands‑on position in a fast‑paced marine service environment. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions around large vessels and heavy equipment.
