POSITION TITLE:
Bilingual School Psychologist
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Perform professional psychological work in assessment, behavior management, and counseling for students with emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, and behavioral problems. Assess the psychological and psycho-educational needs of students referred to special education services. Guide development of Individualized Education Plans (IEP) in compliance with Federal/state law and District policy and procedures.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- One-year experience in education
Education/Certification/Licensure:
- Master's degree, specialist degree or doctoral degree in related field
- Valid license as a school psychologist from the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP)*
- Knowledge of administration and interpretation of appropriate evaluation instruments
- Knowledge of public laws and district procedures regarding special education
- Maintaining two-way communication between various stakeholders
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Bilingual in Spanish
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Interns, trainees, and clerical staff as assignedMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
- Posture: Frequent sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension
- Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds), occasional heaving lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint; assisting nonambulatory students
- Environment: May require district wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours
- Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under pressure
An individual who has completed an internship, applied for a license, and been approved by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP) will be issued a Trainee Status Letter and will maintain this status for a maximum of one calendar year until he or she passes the Jurisprudence Exam. A trainee must be under the supervision of a school psychologist until licensure is confirmed by TSBEP in writing.
*
* Note:
A school psychologist must have a minimum of three years of experience providing psychological services in the public school to supervise an intern or practicum student. .
