Overview

As an Apprentice Carpenter
, you will be working with leading experts in Mass Timber and tall wood construction. You will be responsible for supporting the site supervision team to maintain the progress of solid wood framing systems by completing any required carpentry tasks using engineered wood products such as glulam and cross laminated timber (CLT). With ongoing mentoring and hands-on experience, your skillset as a carpenter will be developed to allow you to quickly progress on our unique projects with new materials and processes.

With time and education combined, this position will provide the necessary on-site experience to complete the Carpenter Interprovincial Exam to receive a Certificate of Qualification with Red Seal Endorsement.

As an Apprentice Carpenter your key accountabilities

  • Performing all on-site carpentry tasks, such as mass timber work, light wood framing, back-framing, and layout.
  • Operating carpentry and general construction hand tools, power tools, nail guns, portable saws, etc.
  • Using personal protective equipment including fall protection equipment (after training and certification), hard hats, high-vis vests, safety footwear, glasses, etc.
  • Participating in all safety requirements on projects and taking part in daily job hazard assessments and weekly toolbox safety meetings.
  • Assisting the team with any general construction activities as needed, including clean up and demolition.
  • May be required to operate telehandlers and mobile elevated work platforms (after training and certification).
  • Rigging and crane works (after training and certification).

As an Apprentice Carpenter your experience and qualifications will include
  • Construction experience is an asset.
  • Being enrolled in a Carpenter apprenticeship program is preferred.
  • Fall protection, Aerial Platform, and Telehandler tickets are an asset.
  • The ability to receive and follow instructions/training.
